One year ago: The birth story

On this day, a year ago, a little angel was born....

*****

2 days prior to the birth, I had slept over at mom's place as Mr Judge was working the night shift.  I had stopped going to work for almost 2 weeks due to fatigue and laziness (hehehe...).  On Wednesday night (23rd Dec), I felt some hard contractions but didn't think much of it as I have had several false contractions before.  However, as I was falling asleep that night, I had a hunch that the next day will be THE day.  Somehow I just knew...

Woke up the next morning and found blood stains on the bed.  With a mixture of panic and excitement, I called Mr Judge, who was on his way back from work, to come to Mom's place, instead of going back to our place.  When he arrived, I asked him to get some sleep first while I went for my final schedule appointment with the gynea.

I waited patiently as I watched other expecting mothers around me went in to see the Doctor.  When it was my turn to see Dr. Idris, I knew that he was going to give me the good news.

"Congratulations!  You are already 3cm dialated.  Please bring this card and check yourself in to Pantai Hospital right after this.  Insyaallah, I shall see you in the delivery room this evening".

3cm dialated!

My baby was 7cm away from being born!

The next thing I did was to call mom and MIL and let them in on the news while driving myself to Restoran Ismail to get my last fix of their ever-delicious nasi beriyani ayam goreng and iced-cool mango juice.  Hey.. I needed to make sure that I won't have any kempunan (cravings) during my confinement period! :)

After feasting myself to the meal, I woke Mr Judge up and we took our time to pack and get ready to go to the hospital.  Somehow we were not in a rush as my contractions were only around 8-5 minutes apart.

We arrived at the hospital shortly after 4pm and was told to go straight to the delivery room.  I was only 5cm dialated by then.  The contractions was still mild and I can still joke around with Mr Judge.  Maybe the hypnobirthing technique did help with the pain management.  The breathing technique helped me to control the pain during each contractions.

By 7pm, I was still 5cm apart and the Dr said that the baby might not be coming out on that day.  I was really dissapointed by the doctor's remark as I was already imagining having a speedy delivery.  I managed to kill the time by playing Bejeweled 2 on the Ipod Touch.  By this time, all our family members had gathered in the hospital's waiting room, eagerly waiting for the arrival of the new family member.

Nurse:  Do you want anything for the pain?
Me:      No thanks...
Nurse:  Are you sure? You cannot request for epidural if it is too close to the delivery time...
Me:      Yes, I am sure.  I plan to have a natural delivery... drug free...
Nurse:  Wa... you so berani ka?  Are you sure?
Me:      Yes, I am sure.  If I can't stand it, I'll let you know...

By 11pm, the doctor decided to excelerate the process by breaking my water bag.  We were actually planning for a natural birth, a birth without any intervention.  However, the doctor and nurse had persuaded us to break the water bag as it had been more than 12 hours and I was still 5cm dialated.  The doctor also said that he was afraid that the baby might get distressed if we were to prolong the process.

We succumbed to the request and.....

"brrsssssstttt!"

1 minute later, I was really really in pain and it felt like the whole world was trying to squeeze through my vajayjay!  I was going back and forth and circling the room, bak kata orang Melayu, macam ayam cabut ekor.  Luckily Mr Judge kept on reminding me to breathe and relax.

The next thing I knew, the nurse said that it was time to push....

The Doctor came in and put on his yellow boots (ala Phua Chu Kang) and positioned himself in front of me.  He was really in a grumpy mood (maybe because the delivery took longer than he had expected) and was not really accommodating.  Earlier on, we had gone through our birth plan with him and had told him what we wanted to happen during the actual birth.  He had agreed to our request at that point of time.  However, he chose to forget what we had discussed and put matters in his own hands that night.  Since it was already late, and I was about to squeeze out a baby, I didn't want to push the matter further.  We know at that point of time that we will not be using his service again for our next child (if any).

pusssssssssshhhhhhhhhhh!

pussssshhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

puuuuuussssssshhhhhhhhhh!

And the chubby little angel was born.....

Pain...?  What pain....?  I seriously can't remember the pain at that point of time.  All I remembered was the feeling of joy, looking at my baby for the first time!

I can remember the first word I utterred though....

"putihnya dia........ are you sure he is my son?"

*****

Me:   What time is it now?
Mom: It is 1:42 a.m. on Friday
Me:   What?!!! It took that long?  It felt like just a few minutes....
Mom: It always does...

*****

Happy 1st birthday, son!
All the labour pain was worth it, as I now have you to hug, kiss and love!
Thank you for the best year of my life... I am looking forward to many more wonderful years as your mummy... Love you!

how time flies

It has been months since I've updated this blog...

Many things have happened since my last post.

1.  I've quit my job and started a new one

The situation on board the 'ship' had been really bad that I come back with tears almost on a daily basis.  It has been too stressful for me that I've lost weight (to the extend that I couldn't even fit into my pre-pregnancy pants!).

Alhamdulillah an offer came by and it was really good.  Hence, I handed in my resignation to Uncle Singh's dismay.  He didn't want to accept the letter and refuse to acknowledge the fact that I would be gone in 3 months time.  He even tried to stop me from leaving until my last day on board the ship.  However, some things will come to an end.  Now I am starting a new chapter of my life, and alhamdulillah it has been an interesting one so far (I hope I don't jinx it!).

2. We went to Perth last month

After jumping off the 'ship', I jumped straight on board a plane to Perth.  I took along Mr Judge, Lil' Noah and my mum with me.  We had a great 5 days visiting my sister-in-law and my aunt in Perth.  Noah also had fun pulling the kangaroo's ears, eating strawberries, chasing after birds and riding the plane!  It was a good time out before commencing a new job.

3.  Noah is now 10 months old!

What can he do now?  Let's see...
a) He can stand up effortlessly (while holding on to objects)
b) He can walk while holding on to his push-toy-lion
c) He can wave good-bye
d) He loves to bang his head (head banging ok jangan marah...) to the mickey mouse clubhouse hotdog song
e) He can pass things when requested to do so (Nak please.....)
f) He will hold up the remote pointing to the fan - to switch it on
g) He will hold any object up to his ears when he hears someone says "hello...."
h) He loves to look at picture books (especially the ones with animals in it)
i) He can scoot himself backwards (while sitting)
j) He can clown around whenever he feels like it

He is definitely growing up real fast.  I bet he will be taking his first step soon.... However, I think his teeth will come out first (yes.. dah 10 bulan and still takde gigi!).  I can feel the early signs on teeth now whenever I feed him.  Just hope he will not bite me once the teeth it out!

Hari raya for Bibik Part IX

Part I | Part II | Part III | Part IV | Part V | Part VI | Part VII | Part VIII

Daaaa....

Of Ladybug, Bee and Accidents...

We had a very hectic Merdeka Day yesterday...

We spent our day @ IKEA, trying to find more furniture for the house.  Even though we have moved into the house for almost 8 months now, it is still decor-less apart from the basic sofa, dining set and bedroom set.

Since it was a holiday, I decided to bring Noah along.  I didn't want him to spend the holiday with bibik, as normal days.  And since his daddy forgot to put his stroller into my car, I was left to wear the 8kg boy through out the 2 hrs!

2 hrs and a dozen of picture frames later, we went off to venture into IKANO in search of a color printer.  I decided to get a good quality printer as I plan to print out pictures to be framed and put in albums for the grandparents (they want to show off their grandson during raya!).

We spotted a kiosk that takes cute baby photos on the 2nd floor and decided to take a portrait of the lil boy.  They dressed him up in a ladybug and bee costume and managed to capture lots of cute shots.  Mind you, it is hard for my son to actually sit still for more than 10 seconds.  He is forever moving!  From the moment he open his eyes in the morning, to the moment he falls asleep, he will be either crawling, or climbing or just simply waving his hands and legs up in the air.

On our way back, Mr Judge had an accident when the trolley that he was pushing got stuck on the escalator and pushed him backwards.  He almost fell on his back if it was not for the people behind him that had managed to hold him up.  Due to that, he had pulled a muscle and was in terrible pain.  He had to limb the whole way back to the car.

We went to the clinic and the doctor gave him a shot to ease the pain.  He is now on medication and is still limping to move about.

This morning, during sahur, Noah pulak had an accident.  He fell off the bed!

We usually leave him to sleep on the bed while we have our sahur.  However, this morning, he was awaken by the alarm clock and I had to nurse him to sleep.  I guess he was only half asleep when I went out to eat and was trying to crawl out of bed when he fell.

The next thing I know he was screaming on top of his lungs, crying on the floor in our bedroom.

Kesian my little ladybug...  He now has a black eye... I just hope that the bengkak will go off in time for raya...

8 months and counting...

Noah's development milestone to-date:

  • he loves to laugh like 'Haji Bakhil'
  • he can crawl non-stop
  • he can now stand on his own with ease
  • he is starting to walk while holding on to the sofa/cot
  • he babbles non-stop
  •  he puts everything into his mouth
  • and he now have separation anxiety when even mummy leaves his sight

He is a lot of work, but I can't imagine what my life would be without him.

Of being a year older

The day has come again...  A day that marks an additional number to my age.

*sigh*  if only the number gets smaller every year ;)

Reflecting on the past year of my life, I have learn that:-
  • life is too precious to be wasted by surrounding yourself with negativity
  • there is more animosity in my current organisation than all my previous organisations combined
  • babies are miracles from Allah
  • good friends are hard to find
  • money is NOT the key to happiness
I seriously can't wait to find out what I have in store for me in the up-coming year. All I wish for is that the decision that I have made (career wise) will be the right one and the best one for me. Insyaallah...

Salam Ramadhan

It is already the 2nd day of fasting.  Time flies... The next thing you know, it will be Aidilfitri once again.

This year, I am going to try to reduce the trips to the bazaar ramadhan.  I bet the prices of food this year are going to be ridiculously high.  Since Mr Judge and I have launched our Project Jimat, I will try my best to prepare home cooked meal every single day, as what we have been practicing for the past few months.

Ramadhan this year is a bit different from the previous years because 1) we have a little boy that needs lots of attention from us, 2) Mr Judge's brother is now staying with us and 3) we have a maid.  Hence, now we have extra 3 people to think of.  We can no longer relax and decide on what to eat  one hour before iftar.  We can no longer take our time to enjoy the food during iftar.

But I am not complaining.  At least now, I can say that the family is complete (almost!).

Alhamdulillah.

Selamat berpuasa to all!

I'm back!!!

7 months of silence...  WOW!

Now I'm back!
Hope to kick-start the blog again.

I miss writing so much. However, my current position restricts me from the freedom of pouring my soul out here.

Despite all the restrictions, I am hoping to break the barrier and be free again. To hell with what people think. It's my space and I'll write if I want to.

So... HELLO WORLD!
