No Charges

This advert is really close to home.

I remembered when I was small, I've always asked for upah for every single thing. Upah for puasa, i.e. a few ringgit for every single day that I've fasted. Upah cabut uban my mom. Upah buat tuh, upah buat nieh. Even when I had to wear braces and the doctor needed to pull out 2 of my teeth pun I cried so hard that my dad had to promised that he'll upah me something if I stop crying (hey I was only 11 at that time).

However, things have changed now. I no longer needed any upah to do anything for I can manage the financial side well, alhamdulillah. Instead, all I longed for are just some love and affection. I needed to know that my parents do care.

How I long to finally receive a call from Dad, without any single mention of any material items. A single call asking me on the progress on my studies would be fine. Nevertheless, he don't even know that I'll be sitting for my exams this coming month.

This raya, I will be praying for a miracle. Something that could actually turn things around and make things better. I pray for God to give some hidayah to my dad and make him realise that his girls doesn't need anything else but his love. I will say thousand prayers for you Ayah at no charges.

To everyone out there...

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri
&
Maaf Zahir dan Batin

Do cherish your loved ones. Never replace your love with any material objects for money can't buy you love.

May all of you have a blessed Syawal.

Sun shining day

Greetings people...

I bet some of you would have started your raya holidays already by tomorrow (friday). hhmmppfff.. As for me, I will only take off during the official off day. Sad eh? However, I really can't afford to take off work due to the fact that I will be off for almost 2 full weeks 2 weeks after raya. Hence, I need to get everything done before then so that I could give full concentration on my studies.

Actually I don't really mind working during the festive season. There will be less people on the road, less people in the office and also less people everywhere! hehehe... Plus, I will only end up lepaking in front of the TV if I were at home. Might else well be in the office and get things done as soon as possible and spend the rest of the day studying. Now I sound like a freak.. Oh god, what have I done to myself?!!!

Oh yeah, there were some good news for me today. I am finally going to get a new laptop. Wuhoo..! However, it's not going to be a brand new one though. I'll be getting the Beast's 3-year old laptop while she gets herself a brand new spanking one with all the latest gadgets installed. Sungguh tak aci. Tapi dah dapat laptop dia pun dah cukup bersyukur dah. Eh.. tiba2 saya berbahasa Melayu.. hehehe. I am looking forward to covert from the damn slow crawling PC to the laptop.

My budget cashflow is almost ready! I thought I'll be spending endless time going through it. Sungguh lega bila melihat ianya tidak la sesusah yang disangka. Then the Beast told me that I won't need to prepare next month's cashflow! Ah... isn't that good news? I tell you, she's no longer living up to the name laa.. If I were to tell all the past execs that had worked under her before about her daily routine now, they would never believe me (that includes you too, bro jiwa). Maybe I AM the Beast tamer *lol*... kidding!

Raya cards... Surprisingly I received quite a handful of them, compared to last year. It's kinda nice to receive an actual card instead of the email version kan? I mean, a few years back when the e-card craze were spreading around, I really felt that the thrill of receiving raya cards were taken out out of the equation. I would prefer to receive even a small raya card compared to an e-card anytime. That also goes for any other card for any occasions. It is just nicer that way..

My sister just walked in. She told me that one of her ex-schoolmate sent her regards to me and that she reads my blog every single day.. Apparently, my blog is one of her favorite compared to Kak Nor's... hahaha... Wow.. That's really something. I actually have people reading my blog everyday? Reading my ntah apa-apa ramblings.. I am deeply touched. To that person, all I can say is thank you so much for reading. Do drop a comment or two yeah...

See, the cloud doesn't stay for long. One day it's a gloomy bad day, and the next day will be a sun shining, birds chirping day. Hope you had a great day too.

For those going back to their hometown, do drive safely.

binx: lalalalalala

An Arduous Day...

When someone tries to do something good, God will always find a way to try and test him, in terms of his genuinity (keikhlasan?) in doing things.

Have you ever noticed that the day you wakes up feeling calm and good about yourself, you will face lots of challenges during that day that really test your patience. During that day, other people just seems extra slow (lembab), extra funny, extra irritating and all other extra qualities that you can think of.

*sigh*

I've just had one of those days. My patience were tested to great heights when:-

1) An idiotic driver actually ramped into my side mirror when he tried to squeeze into my lane during the morning rush. Luckily the act only caused the mirror to bend in and scratched instead of spoiling it totally. I controlled my urge to scream at the idiotic man by just continuing to recite the Surah Ar-Rahman that was playing on the CD player.

2) The morning traffic was extra heavy.

3) The budget template linkages that I was working on suddenly went haywire and I had to check and rectify each and every cell's formula.

4) My blog's template suddenly has a mind of its own and can't be viewed properly using the Internet Explorer. It works well using the Firefox though. Luckily there was a kind soul that offerred to fix it for me. Thanks again buddy.

5) My glasses was stepped on after performing the terawikh. As I was about to reach of it, a lady came and accidentally stepped on it. And now its sadly resting in its box with one leg dangling out of shape. That calls for another trip to visit my optician friend.

*sigh*

What a day it was yesterday...

Just hope today will be a brand new day. Have a great day everyone!

binx: no glasses for today.. :(

Night of Forgiveness

Lailatul Qadar
~Raihan~

Di dalam bulan Ramadhan
Ada satu malam
Nilainya menyamai
Dengan seribu bulan

Itulah dia malam Al-qadar
Hadiah pada hambanya yang bertaqwa

Di dalam bulan ramadhan
Ada satu malam
Nilainya menyamai
Dengan seribu bulan

Singkaplah tabir
Di sepuluh malam terakhir
Berlumba kita mencari keredhaanNya
Hidupkan malam beribadah dan iktikaf
Berdoa, bertasbih dan memohon keampunan

Malam apakah ini ?
Kiraannya 83 tahun
Melangkaui kadar lazim biasa umum
Usia umat nabi pilihan
Beruntunglah bagi hamba

Di dalam bulan Ramadhan
Ada satu malam
Barangsiapa yang menghidupkan
Lailatul Qadar
Akan diampunkan dosa-dosanya yang silam

Ya Allah
Yang memberi
Kemaafan
Maafkanlah kami
Semua hamba-hambaMu

Listen to the song here.

May each and everyone of us be blessed and get to experience the great Lailatul Qadar... Insyallah...

To sleep peacefully...

It has been a long day. I've been up since 4.30 am this morning. And it was all thanks to Ash the cat. She had been screaming at my face since last night, though I managed to ignore it enough to fall asleep.

I knew that she's about to deliver her babies AGAIN soon. However, I didn't expect it to be this soon. Yeah, Ash is a mummy again! *sigh*...

With Ema gone, Ash only has me to turn to. The other two occupants of the house doesn't fancy cat, though I found Mom rubbing Ash's belly this morning before I left for work. She's starting to mellow down... hehehe..

When I got back from the office, I found Ash still screaming madly. Hence, I thought it's going to be another long night. Little did I know that the lil' rascal had already delivered her babies... in my room!!!!... Habis laa busuk my room... *sob*

However, looking at those 3 lil kittens now actually melts my heart. They are so adorable.. So little, nestling in the arms of their mother, who is peacefully sleeping. Ahhh... what a soothing sight. That means I can too sleep peacefully tonight...

binx: 3 more kittens up for adoption.. email me if anyone's interested..

Farewell & Goodbye

Everyone had witnessed the sad episode of the death of our First Lady last Thursday. When I first heard of the news, all I could think of was how Pak Lah was going to deal with the loss. It was never a secret how affectionate he was with his wife. I almost shed a tear today, after reading a story about how Datin Seri Endon had contributed so much to Pak Lah's career. It might not have been something that she would have bragged about. However, even the little small things that she did had touched her husband deeply. That is what we can call True Love. I pray that Allah will give Pak Lah strength to persevere and carry his wife's fighting spirit with him throughout the future. -Al-Fatihah for Datin Seri Endon Mahmood-

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our entire household received a shocking news last Wednesday when Ema, our maid of 4 years, had suddenly declared that she is married! The girl was barely 21 years old and is still 'mentah'. How can she be married all this while and not tell us?
According to her, she got married last year, during her trip back home for hari raya. At that time, she was suppose to go back for good. Her 3 years contract was up and she really wanted to go back to her hometown and settle down. However, a few weeks after raya, she called Mom and asked to come back to work for us. Her reason being that all her friends back home have their own set of families and doesn't have any time to hang out with her. Due to boredom, she would rather come and work with us for another year.
For the past 1 year, we didn't notice anything peculiar about her (i.e: no overnight trips of any sort). All that we noticed was that she now owns her very own mobile phone. She tried her very best to hide it though. However, who would not notice the loud late night conversations coming from her room every single night (tak pandai cover langsung). Apart from that, the other thing that prompted us to think that she has a boyfriend was the fact that she frequently ask for a day off every weekend.
Last Wednesday morning she walked up to Mom and declared herself married. She even had the surat nikah as a proof. However, Mom didn't actually look through the document to verify the date and place of nikah. Hence, we don't actually know when and where did the lil' girl get herself hitched. She told Mom that she would not be working for us anymore and asked to not terminate her permit because she still wants to stay in Malaysia with her husband. Of course Mom was a bit reluctant to do so because...
1) Mom didn't buy the whole nikah story and made a few calls to Ema's hometown (there was no ceremony last year).
2) The whole thing sounds so fishy that Mom told Ema that if she really wants to quit, Mom would send her back to her hometown, doing it the proper way (because she's still young).
Late that night we got a call from her husband, asking Mom not to terminate the wife's permit. That was another shock for us. But Mom stay rooted to her decision for she was worried about the lil' kid's future. Manalah tau kena main dekat the guy or something like that kan... Nauzubillah...
After Sahur on Friday, Mom found the front door and gate unlocked when she went down to take the morning paper...
Mom: Binx.. I think Ema dah takde..
Binx: Huh? Are you sure?
Mom: I think so laa.. the door and gate was unlocked..
Binx: I didn't hear the door pun.. I was studying the whole time after sahur.. mesti dengar..
Binx: Did you check her room?
Mom: Yeah, ada one big bag with her stuffs.. but she's not there..
Binx: Maybe she went out for awhile kut Ma..
Mom: Please round the area later on your way to class ok..
Binx: Sure, I will..
During the morning break in class, I texted Mom..
Binx: Ma.. so Ema balik tak?
Mom: Ema dah lari..
Binx: What?
Mom: Yeah.. She left a note in the postbox..
Binx: Really?
Mom: Yeah.. So now I'm the official babu.. hehehe..
Mom: So nak makan apa for berbuka today?
Came back home and found the note that she left for Mom...
Assalam mualaikum wr. wb.
Kak, Ema minta maaf ema terpaksa ikut suami Ema, karna lebih besar tanggungjawab ema dengan suami dan gaji terserah sama Kak je. Kak nak kirim kat kampung ke tanak kirim kat kampung terpulang pada Kak. Ema pun dah ikhlas kerja dengan Kak, dan Ema mohon tolong jangan cari Ema lagi. Ema minat maaf yang sebesar2nya sama Kak dan keluarga. Halalkan makan minum Ema selama kerja sama Kak. Kalau Ema ada menyakiti hati Kak dan keluarga, Ema minta maaf.
We didn't feel any anger towards her. We didn't hold any grudges for what she did. However, we do feel sad because she chose to live her life that way. What we can do now is just pray to God that the husband will take good care of her and that she will be in good hands. May you find what you are looking for, Ema. Thanks for everything that you have done for our family.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Since we are left to mend for ourselves now, the 3 of us just make do with what we have. Berbuka pun makan simple-simple aje. No more lavish dishes like the ones Ema usually prepares for us.

However, I memang usually prepare my own sahur spread. I can't take rice so early in the morning. Hence, I usually take bread with either egg (half boiled, scrambled, sunny-side up), toast with garlic spread, sausages ot just plain dunk it into my coffee.

This morning, I felt like trying out something new (thanks to cik_dee for the idea - during class *hehehe*).

East Meets West Pizza ala Binx

Ingredients:

Bread (white or wholemeal)
Butter / Garlic Butter Spread
Serunding daging (meat floss)
Cheddar Cheese (didn't have time to run to the store for mozzarella)

2) Sprinkle some serunding daging on the bread
3) Add a layer of cheese on top of the serunding
4) Pop it in the oven for 5-7 minutes
5) and walaaaaah! Pizza is ready for sahur..

Confession of a constipated Binx

I've been having this problem for ages. Some blame it on the fact that I don't take veggies. Some say that I don't drink enough water.

However, I know for a fact that I am not alone in facing this problem. This is due to the fact that this is a common problem, especially among women. In Japan, they even created a special pill to overcome the problem because it is quite common for Japanese women to experience this problem.

There was once when I didn't go to the toilet (for the #2) for almost 3 weeks! I've tried everything, from eating prunes (a huge tub of it!), drinking lots of water (a huge bottle every one hour), doing some exercise, to drinking green tea. None of those methods worked. During those awful 3 weeks, my stomach felt so damn bloated and my face was full of pimples, due to all the unflushed toxins in the body. It was not a beautiful sight indeed. In the end I had to succumbed to the laxative pump that you have to pump in through the 'back door'. Urrgh.. how I hate those pumps. However, it worked!

I am currently facing the same problem again. It has been a week since I last did the # 2. I did try to force it out, only to spend almost 30 minutes on the toilet throne without discharging anything. I nearly missed my terawikh that night because I was in the toilet for so long.

I have tried my usual coffee + milk trick last night to no avail. Mom had also prepared the green tea for me the other night and still no result. I have drank gazillions litres of water and ate lots of fruits. What else must I do to flush it out of my system?!

I am desperate now. Raya is closing in and I don't want to spend another raya covered with zits. Hence, anyone with any advice/suggestions?

Laksam & Nasi Kerabu Iftar

What a fun day it was....

It began with a cold, rainy morning when I actually forgo studying due to the demanding tired body. However, I received a call from Abg Zorro at about 9 am asking me to come in to the office in order to finish up the consol accounts. There goes my Saturday!

Before I went to the office, had to run some errands in order to prepare for the big iftar tonight. Hence, went to the Pasar Besar to get some fish and ulam-ulam for the laksam and nasi kerabu.

Rushed to the office after dropping off the groceries at home. Was already at my cubicle, crunching numbers, by 11 am. Unfortunately, Mr. Tilam was in too.. Urrggghh... Ran through the accounts with Abg Zorro and got everything done by 1 pm. Since it was still early, I decided to update on my filings and managed to cleared out most of my in-tray stuffs. Hah... that's what we call efficient! *winks*

Got back at around 3 pm and helped out Ema (maid) in the kitchen, preparing the laksam for the laksa kelantan. It was actually fun to actually take time off from all the studying that I've been doing and do some cooking instead.

Laksam & ulam

The troop (Aunt & family and Cousin & family) came at around 6.30 pm. Aunt had prepared the rice and all the lauk for Nasi Kerabu. It looked oh so delicious that I was constantly looking at my watch to check the time for berbuka. On top of that, she had also prepared karipap and some puddings too! It seems that the cravings for karipap actually runs in the family. My lil' cousin actually asked his mom to prepare it almost every single day! Cool!

Karipap

Sira Pisang

It has been a long time since we had a dinner gathering like tonight. And it was a fun occasion indeed. However, it would have been two times merrier if Lil Sis & Ducky Cousin were at home instead of in Perth & Japan. Well girls, just click here to see what you guys have missed tonight (warning: jangan emo ok).

Hope everyone had a great iftar too...!

Confession of the Forgetful Binx...

Forgetful scene #1

Went for my normal weekend class (Saturday). Entered class in a very relax mode. Took my favorite seat (at the end of the classroom), and started to prepare myself for class. Took out my pencil case and noticed that I forgot to bring my calculator! My calculator should be in my pencil case at all time. However, of all the days, I chose that day to leave it at home, when the only calculation chapter in the syllabus will be taught. Smart, Binx... Very smart...

Forgetful scene #2

As the lecturer started to switch on the projector, I reached for my glasses in my bag. Got the case - opened it - EMPTY! First the calculator, then the glasses. Luckily she distributed the slides handouts for the lecture.

Forgetful scene #3

Before class the next day (Sunday), I made sure that I have my glasses neatly tucked in its case. Hence, I confidently walked into class and took my normal seat. The girl next to me noticed that I brought my glasses that day and applauded me.. hahaha.. However, after 10 minutes seating in the freaking cold classroom, everyone started to pull their warm clothing out of their bag. That was when I realised that I left my jacket in the car! To make it worse, it was a 4-hour lecture... Brrrr......

Forgetful scene #4

Was early getting ready for work earlier this week. I actually pushed off from home 15 minutes earlier than my usual time. Hence, I was actually thinking of it to be a start of a pleasant day. 10 minutes into the journey and the rain started pouring... Reached for my bag to retrieve my glasses.. and it was not there!!! Arrggghhh...... Spent the entire journey driving under 60 kmph, with the body leaning near the windscreen - squinting.

Forgetful scene #5

Made sure I had my glasses sitting on top of my nose this morning, before I left the house. Hence, I was sure that I will not have any more forgetful blunders. Arrived at the office, went up to my floor, switched on my PC and suddenly remembered that I needed to SMS a friend. Reached for my bag and it was not there. I've forgotten my handphone!!!

I read somewhere that forgetfulness may be triggered by stress. Yes, I have been under a lot of stress lately. However, I could not grasp the fact that I can be that forgetful for the past couple of weeks!

Hope it would not continue to be this way up until my exam date. I pray to God that I will not face such incidents during my exam week. Imagine turning up for a Financial Strategy paper without bring a calculator along... That will be a total disaster! (touchwood!)...

How I wish.....

How I wish life is much simpler than it is rite now. Life.. with no studying to do, no work obligations, no work related pressure, no exam related stress, would be the one I am in need for rite about now.

Wish I could just drop everything that I am currently shouldering and just disappear... An escape to the beach would be nice.. However, it's not the season to be lazing around by the beach, with the rain and all. At the rate that I am going rite now, a week stay in a hotel room, with spa facilities, would be good enough. Daily massage would be heavenly... Aaaahhh...... *dreaming away*

If you could just go away for awhile, where would you go? Maybe your input could be of help to me...

Of Mattresses and Holes

Have you ever noticed the lorry that goes around the neighborhood selling mattresses?

"Tilam.. Tilam..."

I once bought a mattress from an uncle Tilam before, back in the uni days. The tilam was errmm.. how shall I say it.. lembik.. Once you seat on it, it just sinks right in. So tak sedap...

Why am I talking about mattresses? Well, I am very much infuriated by a Mr. Tilam (bukan nama sebenar) this morning. Why we call him tilam, I shall not say. However, the thing that Mr. Tilam did was very unforgiving...

1st: He promises to submit something to me earliest by Wednesday last week. And guessed when I received that something... Yesterday!, after the official working time for us, Muslims, at 4.45 pm.

2nd: After checking his something, I detected some major errors in it and went in search for him to rectify it this morning. I told him gently about it, guessed what he did.. He snapped at me! The mistake was his, and not mine...

3rd: At around 11 am just now, he had the cheek to come to my place, all smiling (smug is more like it) telling me that the error had been rectified and he was sorry for snapping at me. After spoiling my good mood, you can just smile and say sorry? Sorry mister! Go sell your tilam some place else... Sini tak laku...

Ok dah lepas geram.. :D

Back to the subject of mattresses.. tilam.. or lembek (Kelantan-speak)

I wonder if the uncle Tilam would buy back all the tilam in the guys dorm back in my high school. My goodness, I tell youuuu... those tilam's conditions were terrible.. full of holes! One look at those tilams and you'll lose your appetite for a week!

What's with guy's mattresses and holes, I wonder... I know of one tilam that is full of holes, and it's not a real mattress (the Mr. Tilam laa kan, who else).

So anyone care to explain about the holes?

Am blogging from the office, again! The Streamyx at home has yet to be activated by those morons at Streamyx. They have promised a 3 days minimum activation period, and it has been a week now. When Sis called Streamyx yesterday, they said that according to their database the connecting address was still our old address, so we need to check with TM and ask them to update the database. WE need to check with TM, not them...! What type of customer service is that? A call to TM only irritate her more when they told her that the address has been changed since last week. Orang nieh cakap lain, orang tuh cakap lain... Siapa yang susah? We all jugak... :(

On another subject, I no longer have to share a room with my sister! Wuhoooo... gila happy! We finally sorted out all the junks we called treasure and threw away most of it to make space in the other room. After re-arranging the position of the furniture, we managed to turn it into one more comfy room. Hooray!

I have loads to ramble on actually. However, I have been coughing and sneezing non-stop since this morning that causes my brain to be a wee bit disarrayed. Hence, will have to wait till the connection at home is activated and I will be rambling away from the comfort of my very own room.. *winks*

Of Popiah and Karipap

It is the fasting month again, Ramadhan Al-Mubarak. Starting from tomorrow, there will be no more morning coffee at 8.30 am, no more lunch break, and no more afternoon tea-break at 5.00 pm.

However, for most Malaysians, this is the month where there will be endless choices of food. You can find a 'Pasar Ramadhan' in almost every district in the country, offering various local delicacies such as Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Dagang, Ayam Percik, Ayam Golek, Otak-otak, Murtabak and many more. You can also find various local kuih such as kuih talam, buah melaka, kuih cara berlauk, tepung pelita, bubur pulut hitam and many more at the said market. Hence, you can guarantee that people from all walks of life, from different races (not reserved for Malays/Muslims only) will flock these stalls as soon as it opens at around 4pm starting from tomorrow.

As for me, I have stopped going to the Pasar Ramadhan since 2 years ago. I find it to be too crowded for comfort. Furthermore, the food sold just doesn't appeal to my taste bud anymore. I would prefer to have a home-cooked meal as compared to most of the dishes sold at the Pasar.

Maybe I can rule out that hygiene is one of that push-factor in this case. I just hate the fact that you have to pay so much just to eat something that will cause stomach discomfort later on. In the end you ibadah will also be ruin because you will be spending most of the time in the toilet instead of at the mosque performing the terawikh.

Nevertheless, one thing for sure, my buka puasa ritual will not be complete without either popiah or karipap. These are my two all-time favorite kuih. Hence, I would usually do a quick dash to the Pasar to buy either kuih almost everyday, with out fail. Last two years, I actually made the popiahs myself and stored it in the freezer to be fried every evening - lagi sedap - juicy: filled with lots of minced chicken meat, taugeh and etc. *drool*. I don't think I'll do that this year, due to the time factor (plus a wee bit malas).

So, here is a wish to everyone out there, Selamat Berpuasa! May all our ibadah will be accepted by Him. During you trips to the Pasar Ramadhan - Beli jangan ikut nafsu, ok *winks*...

p/s: Lil Sis.. hope you'll survive your 1st Ramadhan away from home. *hugs*
