Poor fishies...

A dear friend had just moved into her new house last month. And as part of her Balinese-home concept, she had installed a small water feature in her in-house garden. The whole thing had fit in perfectly in her plan and even her husband had to agree that it was a great concept.

Hence, when I went for her sort-of house warming get-together, I asked whether they are going to get any fishes, e.g. koi, for the new kolam...

Friend: No way!
Binx: Why laa?
Friend: Firstly, it stinks.
Friend: Secondly, what if it jumps out of the kolam on to my new sofa?
Friend: Habis laa sofa baru I...
Binx: Rite.........

Anyway, I guess the husband managed to persuade her into buying some goldfish for their new kolam. So the couple had happily went shopping for goldfish and not to forget an 'ikan bandaraya'.

Being an amateur at it, the couple meddled their way through in preparing the kolam for their new fishes. Little did they know that fishes, especially goldfish, are very sensitive creatures that needed to be settled into their new 'home' gently. With a single thrust, they let got of the fishies to dive their way into their new environment.

Soon after, the fishies became the center of attention of the couple, especially the husband. He would actually feed them constantly around the clock.

#1 (Conversation over the phone)

Friend:
You know what?
Binx: What?
Friend: I spent the whole night cleaning up the kolam last night..
Friend: All the fishies dah mati..
Binx: Huh? All of them? What happened?
Friend: We don't know.. But urrgghh.. the smell was horrible..

#2 (Conversation over breakfast)

Binx:
So what actually happened to the fishies?
Friend: I don't know.. Nak kata I didn't clean the kolam, I did..
Friend B: Did you change the water?
Friend: Of course laa.. Fresh tab water ok..
Friend B: Did you put anti-chlorine in the water?
Friend: Errkk.. Kena eh?
Binx & Friend B: d'oh!
Friend: Opppss..
Friend: But hubby feeds them well.. non-stop
Friend B: Bagus laa tuh.. Makan banyak2 plus minum air filled with chlorine.. poor fishies..
Binx: *lol* Kejam nya you guys..
Friend: No wonder the fishies were very fat and bloated when we found them dead..
Binx: Oh my god...

Binx: So how many fishies did you guys get actually?
Friend: Around 30 kut..
Binx: And all 30 of them died?
Friend: No lah.. but we decided to get rid of the rest too..
Friend B: What did you do with them?
Friend: I threw them into the drain.. so that they can swim off to the open sea..
Binx & Friend B: You ingat macam dalam Finding Nemo ke?
Friend: Betul laa.. At least that was better what..
Friend: Hubby wanted to flush them off into the toilet bowl.
Binx: Eh.. hello.. where do you think the drain leads to?
Binx: Mana ada laut kat KL nieh kak oii...
Friend: Then?
Binx: It leads to the water reservoir laa.. where the water will be treated to be recycled.
Friend: Oh my god.. I'm a fish killer..
Friend B: Poor fishies...

That was the funniest conversation we had over our monthly breakfast date by far. Imagine the look on the other customers' faces when we were laughing our hearts out and even screaming (takde laa on top of our voices) to our 'smart' friend this morning.

Exam Woes...

What is it with exams that people get so hyped, stressed and panicked about? It is just a paper set to test your ability to memorise, understand, apply or even bullshit (back in school we use to term it as "menggoreng") your way through. However, that particular paper also can drive a person to a certain extend that he would do anything just to aced/pass it.

I never realised that an exam can cause a great impact on a person until I sat for the professional exams. My god it is tough..! I mean, yeah people might say that it is just another set of exam.. "Apa susah sangat?".. Well, to tell you the truth, according to my lecturer, the examiners for most of the professional exam papers are sadistic people. They just love to torture the candidates because they feel that as a professional, you should be able to handle the challenges and the stress that are thrown your way. Hence, if you are able to handle the stress and exam pressure well, you should be able to handle anything that comes your way. Hmm.. really?

And preparing for exams are really taxing as well. First, you need to invest a lot of money (A LOT! Remember the extra RM1k? It's gone now after paying for my revision class fees *sob**sob*). Then you need to put in some extra time to study, that is if you have extra time la. Hence, there goes your "me" time. Every free time needed to be planned and used wisely. You just have to think of it this way... The consequences for pigging out in front of the idiot box is that you will be calling yourself an idiot when you fail (again!). However, you should learn how to balance study and entertainment laa jugak. All work and no play makes you dull and grey..

Once you have nailed the studying part, now comes the most crucial day of your life, THE DAY. You have made sure that you know where the exam was to be held.. You have prepared everything that were needed for the exam (identification - checked!, exam entry slip - checked!, pens - checked!, calculator - errmm.. where's my calculator?!). You woke up extra early to prepare yourself for the battle, ate a healthy breakfast, braved the morning traffic and got yourself to the exam hall on time. Once the announcement was made, you walked into the exam hall, reciting all the doas' that you know and remembered, found a place where you feel was ok (you've checked that there's no psychos or irritating kiasu people sitting in front, at the back and next to you and made sure the the chairs and tables were stable) and took you sit. With the kalimah bismillahirrahmannirrahim you opened the question booklet, took one look at the first question and suddenly everything went BLANK!

Alhamdulillah that situation has never happened to me, yet. And I pray to God that it will never happen. However, that is a true scenario of what has happened to some students. The speaker of the exam technique workshop that I have just attended this evening had shared his experience as an examiner/marker of the professional exam board. According to him, most students goes blank and panicked when they see the examination questions. Some regained their composure and managed to tackle the questions well after pausing for a breather (which should not be more then a minute because every second counts in these exams). Others either walk out of the exam hall without finishing the exam or try to be creative and instead write a "Dear examiner..." note in the answer scripts.

"Dear Examiner,

I am sorry for being 40 minutes late for the exam. I was told to get on the No. 43 bus to get to the exam hall. However, the bus took me to another place instead. Hence, I needed to board another bus and was delayed on the way. I hope you could help me out by not penalising me for not being able to finish answering the required number of questions."

"Dear Examiner,

Please don't fail me. I'll give you GBP100 if you pass me. My number is 777-00-8370. I promise to pay you once I've received my result."

"Dear Examiner,

Please have some mercy on me. I've been sitting for this paper for my forth time. I know I've tried my best to answer all the questions required. However, I never seem to be able to clear this paper. I beg you to pass me this time around. My career progression depends on this. Thank you."

Funny ey.. But it's the truth. Some people would succumbed to the pressure and just do stupid things during exam. Luckily there are no multiple choice questions (MCQs), if not we can definitely see some people throwing out dices during the exams.

I have had my fair share of failures over the past 2 and a half years. I can't really pin down where did it went wrong. I guess it was just not my luck. Hence, I am now determined to overwrite those failures with passes this time around. Insyallah I will try my best to give it all that I have. Pass or fail will be beyond my control. Just knowing that I have given the best that I can will be good enough for now. Praying hard that I will not need to write one of those "Dear Examiner..." note this coming November *winks*.

Renjis-renjis dipilis...

Just got back from a wedding tonight. It was the 3rd wedding I have attended so far of my ex-TTDI schoolmates. 1 was back in 2000 (the couple now has 2 daughters), and the other one was in 2003 (the couple now has a daughter too) and the other one was tonight.

The best part about tonight was when I went to picked up a friend before the wedding.

Friend: So, how have you been? It has been a while since we last saw you...
Binx: Yeah.. true.. I've been hibernating in the office laa you
Friend: How come I never see you at other weddings? Ramai jugak yang dah kawin..
Binx: Err.. maybe because I was not invited kut..
Friend: Eh.. errr serious? Takkan laa they didn't invite you?
Binx: Yeah.. but I guess it's ok.. Partly my fault also for not keeping in touch with them all...
Friend: (guilty tone) Ooook.. Takpe laa kut...

During the wedding, I met most of my ex-schoolmates, along with their husband/wife, fiance and boyfriend/girlfriend. It was such an awkward moment. Especially when I was seated between two good friends that kept exchanging updates about other weddings that they have attended. Orang tuh kawin, orang nieh kawin... It seems that almost everyone that I know is married (according to my friend laa.. "semua orang dah kawin..!").. *yawnnnnn*

I can't help but to feel a bit left out during the whole ceremony. But I didn't want to be pretentious by dragging along a guy just so as to not be singled out among the crowd. Plus I didn't want to have to explain to everyone that the guy was just a friend and keep getting the "uh.. yeah rite.. friend..". The last time I did that I ended up in a big mess.

To sidetrack a bit, why would people assume that when a guy and a girl go out, that they are actually a couple? They can be friends or colleagues accompanying each other to a function or on a shopping excursion to find a birthday/wedding gift for friends.

I was really stunned (jaw-dropping kinda stunned) yesterday when a promoter at one of the beauty counter at a mall actually called me and Izzy (an annoying colleague), a couple. "Biasa laa... orang tengah bercinta.." URGHHH! 1. He was just accompanying me in search for a birthday present for a dear friend, 2. We were not in any lovey dovey situation that would have prompted such remark from the mak nyah promoter, 3. I was actually whacking his head for cracking stupid joke about the promoter... Apa yang bercinta nya? I don't get it!

After today, I have made a vow to myself, to avoid attending any more weddings until I am ready to face such situations again. I'll try my best to dodge the bullets (wedding invitations) by doing the same thing that I've been doing so far, burying myself in work and studies. I just hope that I will not bury myself in too deep, that "the one" will not be able to find/see me underneath all those files and books.

I'm Never Gonna Leave You...

Green Day - Wake Me Up When September Ends

Music Video Codes by FreeVideoCodes.com

Summer has come and past.
The innocent can never last.
Wake me up when September ends.

Like my fathers come to pass,
Seven years has gone so fast.
Wake me up when September ends.

Heree comes the rain again,
Falling from the stars.
Drenched in my pain again,
Becoming who we are.

As my memory rests
But never forgets what I lost.
Wake me up when September ends.

Summer has come and past.
The innocent can never last.
Wake me up when September ends.

Ring out the bells again.
Like we did when spring began.
Wake me up when September ends.

Here comes the rain again,
Falling from the stars.
Drenched in my pain again,
Becoming who we are.

As my memory rest,
But never forgets what I lost.
Wake me up when September ends.

Summer has come and past.
The innocent can never last.
Wake me up when September ends.

Like my fathers come to pass.
Twenty years has gone so fast.
Wake me up when September ends.[x3]

This and that..

  • So this is how it feels like when you have nothing to do in the office.. The speaker is on, instead of the usual earphone stuck in my ear.. Spent the day surfing the net and wuhooo updating blog!

  • Is this for love or money? I wonder... However, I salute her for keeping it a hush hush thing instead of her other colleagues that made it known to everyone who they are currently dating / eyeing / marrying.

  • However, this was not something new. After this happened, it was just a matter of time before someone else snags her. Maklumlah, she's been dubbed as "Perempuan Melayu Tercantik" what...

  • It was sad to see this happened last Tuesday night. Despite having the chemistry between them, it was not enough to convince her family to choose him as one of the finalist. They would rather have someone who is matured enough to handle their sister. Urrgghh.. I totally disagree (emo laa pulak.. hehehe..)

  • Going to watch this movie later tonight. Can't wait. Have been hearing good reviews about the movie.. Hopefully it won't turn out to be like one of those typical malay movie that turns all sappy and lovey dovey through out the entire 2 hours.

  • Malaysians are going bonkers over this. Sedap sangat ke dia nieh? Just hope that it won't be like one of those hangat-hangat taik ayam thing laa.. We just have to wait and see.

  • If you have an extra RM1,000 lying around, what would you do with it? Would you spend it on new clothes? New shoes? Buy the dream phone that you've been wanting to get you hands on? Treat your friends for dinner? Or just save it for a rainy day?

Pulling the weight...

All this talk about eating yesterday had got my appetite running wild. I spent one whole day discussing one food after another with friends and colleagues.. hehehe...

However, I am allowed to do so laaa.. because I am as skinny as a stick. I am the type that can eat a whole lorry full of yummy chocolates and will not gain weight. The only time I gained so much weight was back in form 4-5, where we were fed 6 times a day! Tuh pun the maximum weight reached was 52 kg.

Yeah.. I'm way under weight. If I were to measure my weight against my height (I am 5' 7" tall and my weight is 50kg, convert it here), weight-height chart(see below) will show that I am not even in the colored area.. Underweight! However, I am almost there laa.. 7 more kgs to gain and it'll be perfect. Tough! How to gain 7 kgs ek?

All these while, the only indicator that will show that I'm eating well (makan banyak) is when my cheeks turn chubby. Not cherubs-chubby laa, just cute tembam chubby *winks*. Looking at myself in the mirror for the past few days, I've noticed that they are a little bit tembam now.. Good sign laa kan... And this was confirmed by a dear friend yesterday when the first thing he said to me (after 5 months of not seeing each other) "Eh, dah tembam sikit".. Yipee!. Tembam sikit is definitely good.

Knowing me, the tembam-ness will not stay long. This is due to the fact that my eating cycle is not well balanced. Few weeks I'll be pigging out on all the sinful foods (like right now, am munching on double choc chip & pecan nut famous amos cookies) and another few weeks I'll just settle for 2 meals a day (sometimes just 1 meal). It's not something that I have control over. It's the hormones (yeah.. blame it on the hormones.. they can't talk back).

Some people say that I might be able to put on some weight after marriage. However, looking at my mom, I don't think it will change anything.

So, how about you? Care to share any tips to gain weight?

Cheer Up!

I know of a friend that needed some cheering up today..

Life is not over yet buddy... You still have a long way to go. Hence, you can't call it quits just yet. Not when you have lots of things going for you.

I know you can do it the next time... Maybe everything happened for a reason. Maybe God had arrange it in such a way that we both wont lose the bet we've made few years back. Maybe we'll both finish our exams at the same time (Insyallah).. hahahhahaha (ayat nak sedapkan hati tuh) *winks*

Ala dude... cheer up! This is not the time for you to dwell on it. Buck up and try again next time around. You need all the energy you have to push yourself to the limit. And this time just make sure those examiners don't have any room to find errors..

After that, you go and be the best daddy a baby could ever have.

Wouldn't that be great?

*hugs*

If that doesn't help.. maybe you can try listening to this song.. Cool video clip..

Another Round of Shopping Spree...!

Since I didn't actually get what I was looking for on my previous shopping trip, I decided to drop by One Utama on my way back from the library today. Yup, the library... *grins* Needed push myself to study if I really want to pass my exams..

Anyway, back to the juicy part... shopping!..

I received a birthday card from Spade (an Edmunser's label) - like every other year, bearing a 40% discount coupon on every item purchased during my birthday month. So, apa lagi... time to stock up on jackets and pants laa kan..

What did I get for myself?

1 black pin stripe jacket and a matching pants
1 grey pin stripe pants

And as a loyal customer (yeah.. I usually get my work pants n jackets here because I just love their materials), they gave me 3 more discount coupons for the next purchase. 30% off for every item!! Wuhoo.. However, the expiry date is till end of September.. Dunno if I'll have enough financial back-up next month for another round of shopping though.

At first I thought I would just make a pit stop at Spade and then rush back home. Then I remembered that I still haven't found anything to wear to my best friend's garden wedding reception next month. Hence, I was roaming the entire mall (old wing and new wing) searching for a nice, affordable (cannot laa mahal2) dress..

And as usual, when you know exactly what you want, you will have a hard time finding it in all the shops. Have you ever faced a similar situation? E.g. when you were only window shopping, there will be lots and lots of dresses hanging in the window of every shops. During that time, you couldn't care less about it because you were not looking for a dress. However, when you actually want to look for a dress, it is as if they have announced it to all the shop owners to take it off the rack.. "Attention shop owners.. Binx will be stopping by today in search for a dress.. Please hide all the dresses on the rack instantly.. Thank you".. hhmmppff...

I finally managed to find one shop that sells beautiful dresses. I was mesmerised by all the nice flowy materials hanging on the racks. Lawa ok... But one look at the price tag had almost caused me my 1st heart attack.. errkk.. Cannot afford laa weii...

Suddenly remembered that my sis bought one nice dress when she was in New York few years back.. Hmm... interesting... So I rushed back home and asked her about it over dinner..

Kak Nor: If you can fit in it, pakai laa..
Binx: (selamat my money...) *grins* Thanks

Hence, dress problem solved. Just need to find a cardigan to wear over it..

I guess another trip to the Mall won't hurt my wallet, kan?

Confession of a Picky Eater

Yeah I am very particular when it comes to food. I don't just eat every single thing that appears on my plate (yeah no wonder kurus keding). Maybe I am not that adventurous when it comes to food..

I was inspired to do this after reading the King's post on the things that he doesn't like to eat.. Here goes..

List of food that will never end up on Binx's plate...
(if it does, it'll be extricated one by one)

1) Vegetables (except for potatoes, carrots, asparagus & petola)
2) Japanese food (except for those cooked ones)
3) Cooked pineapples (e.g. in acar, pajeri, etc.)
4) Cooked durian (e.g. cucur durian, pulut durian, pengat durian, etc.)
5) Tempe (even though I'm half jawa)
6) Rebung (urgh.. that smell!)
7) Bread pudding (I can't accept the fact that you use expired breads to make the pudding)
8) Plain milk (I only drink flavored milk)
9) Sirap bandung (how can u drink sirap with milk? urgghh)
10) The kuih with kacang hijau inside.. kole kacang ke nama dia?
11) Bubur jagung & air jagung
12) Bubur kacang hijau
13) Mushrooms (esp. those big black ugly ones yg they usually put in sizzling noodle tuh)
14) Yoong Tau Fu
15) Tosey
16) Oatmeal (Quaker Oats)
17) Ikan perkasam
18) all the ulams (except for daun kesum - makan with laksa/nasi kerabu.. best)
19) Popiah basah (i love popiah goreng though- one of my must-have kuih for puasa)
20) Cheesecakes (gimme any other cake but this one...)

There are plenty more.. but I guess these are the major ones that I will for sure tolak tepi at a buffet table.

What are my favorites? Well, for me to list it down, it will be a very long list aa kut.. Maybe in another post laa pulak.

So, what is your least favorite food?

The day I got an MC...

Ahaa... finally Binx got an MC...

No.. I was not late for work and pretended to be sick like last time... In fact I was really SICK!

It started out early in the morning. I didn't have time for breakfast, even though I bought myself a huge packet of nasi lemak with ayam masak sambal. Since I can't have it for breakfast, I thought I might save it for lunch. It was a brilliant plan because I thought of doing some studying for a test later in the evening.

9.00 am

My tummy started to churn.. "grrookkk.. groookk..."
Yeah I was very hungry.. and the aroma of the nasi lemak didn't help the situation at all. There was practically nothing to munch on since the office boy was so smart to order a very tak sedap cookies for the pantry. If not I would have my favorite cream cracker dunk into my morning cup of coffee..

9.10 am

Izzy offered me his oreos... Was munching on those oreos when I felt there was something wrong with my stomach. It was not a normal hungry feeling.. It was more than that. After a while, I can feel that those oreos that I've munched on earlier was finding its way up my throat... Apa lagi.. I did a record breaking sprint to the ladies and "uweeeeekkkkk"...

Spent almost 20 minutes with my face in the toilet bowl this morning. The pain just would not go away. And those oreos looks horrible, all smashed up mixed with saliva (I hope you are not eating while reading this post).. Urrrggghhh...

9.30 am

Walked into the Kumpulan Medic (a panel doctor) on the 4th floor to seek help. I know I could not survive the day if I were to leave it as it is... Sakit ooo... But that was after I accidentally puked on the stairway on my way to the clinic (It was just a floor down from my department - so I usually take the stairs)... It was horrible.. Those black cookie bits were everywhere.. I felt bad that I didn't get to tell the cleaner lady about it.. Habis laa bau.. yucks!!

9.45 am

Walked out of the consultation room feeling horrible. The pain was excruciating. The doctor diagnosed it as a "terrible gastric attack".. I asked him if I could just lie down somewhere till the pain go away before resuming my work. Unfortunately the clinic was full house today that he asked me to go back home.

"If you resume your work also you won't be able to concentrate, girl.. Go back and rest"..

"How am I gonna get home? I still need to drive back.. I'm in no condition to drive rite now"

"I'm sorry girl. You just have to rest in the office then. I'll get you an MC"

10.00 am

Binx: Aunty, I'm on MC today.
Boss: What happened to you girl?
Binx: Terrible gastric. The cashflow is not ready yet though. So I'll definitely resume work as usual tomorrow ya..
Boss: Dun worry.. Now go home.. We don't want you fainting on the job

10.10 am

Izzy: You sure you can drive?
Binx: I guess so.. I have to.. No one's available to pick me up..
Binx: Plus I still need to get my car home kan..
Izzy: Wait til lunch and I'll send you home laa..
Binx: It's ok.. Lunch's at 12.30.. I dun think I can wait that long..
Binx: I'll manage..
Binx: Just do me a favor.. eat my nasi lemak ok..

10.20 am

Just got outside of the building and suddenly felt like fainting. Hence, I sat down at the sidewalk and dialed for Izzy..

Binx: You.. I need a favor..
Izzy: What's up?
Binx: My car is parked 150m away... and I dun think I can walk that far..
Binx: Can you take my car for me?
Izzy: Sure.. gimme a sec and I'll come down..

It was great of him to help me out and I am eternally grateful for that.

Izzy: You sure you can drive ke? Wait laa til lunch..
Binx: (putting up an act) No.. I'm OK.. Just that I can't walk that far
Izzy: You sure?
Binx: Definitely.. No go, before your record says MIA..
Izzy: Call me when you reach home yeah..
Binx: Ok..

As soon as he walked away.. I searched high and low for a plastic bag in my car and "uweekkkk"... Luckily there was the huge MNG plastic bag that was huge enough for me to fit in my entire face innit.

10.40 am

Had to make an emergency stop near the Muzium Negara. The pain was terrible and there was still more cookies to be let out... I did the puking routine for about 3 minutes and then pushed the headrest down to rest for a while. That few minutes felt like an eternity when I woke up 10 minutes later. And surprise surprise.. no cucuk-cucuk pains in the stomach.. Hence, I took that as a sign for me to get myself home as fast as possible.

11.15 am

Arrived home safely, even though that was the longest journey home I've ever had.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..............

binx: it really pays to fall sick..

Why does he has to spoil everything by trying to substitute something with material stuffs? Why? Does he think that by giving me a "big" gift, he can make me love him more, or by not giving me anything, it will make me love him less?

Instead of making me feel loved, the message made me feel sad. It was so typical of him to show his "love" to us by giving us material stuffs. Unfortunately, this daughter of his was never a materialistic kinda person. Instead I'd rather just have him calling me up and wish me personally than receiving any fancy/expensive gifts from him.

Why can't I have a normal father that showers me with hugs instead of money? Why can't I have a father that is always around whenever I need a man's point of view? Why can't I get a father that I can plan a father-daughter day out with?

I know I should be grateful and thankful that I actually have a father (even though he was not physically and emotionally around for more than 8 years now). However, at times like this I really wish that I can have more. I envy my cousins for having a dad that was always around to joke with them, laugh with them and cry with them. I wish I could share those moments with my own dad...

That was all that I wished for... It's not the gifts/presents that I want...

The day has come... again!

the bday cake I shared with my aunt & cousin
(a triple celebration)

The time has come to mark another milestone in my life. A mark that adds up another year in the numbers shown in the AGE column in my employee's record file, my IC, my drivers license, my friendsters profile, my blogger's profile and many more...

I was surfing the net today and found a very interesting site that list out all the famous people that were born in the same year as me... All I could say was, "Wow.. they're my age?! Really?!"...

Check the list out...

They've accomplished so much at a very young age. I can't help but to compare myself, my achievements against theirs. Of course it's like heaven and earth la kan.. I'm on top of course because......

I'm IncrediBinx, the Beast tamer *winks*

Hehehe... maybe I took after the great leader that shared the same birth date with me, de great Napoleon Bonaparte (15 August 1769 - he's 210 years older than me..!!) that has once said "The most dagerous moment comes with victory"...

After all the things that I've gone through so far, I really have to agree with another birthday mate of mine, Ben Affleck, when he said, "Sure, I suffered a lot. But it's not like the end of the world and it's not who I am. I lead quite a pleasant life and I'm able to divorce a perceived reality from my actual experience of life."

So here's to a beginning of another interesting year...

a pendant from Mom... I like...

p/s: I received a solitaire ring for my bday! oh no.....

Of Being A Year Older...

A year older...
A year wiser (i hope..)

May I live to experience everything in life that God has to offer me, Insyallah

Purple is the color of love...

Begitu sempitnya waktu, begitu besarnya cinta..

That was the underlying message for the latest Indon movie, Ungu Violet. The movie was superb, to me laa, because it plays a lot with symbolic meaning behind every scenes. The film was done in a very simple yet excellent way that leaves a lot of room for the audience to interpret the scenes themselves. With not much dialogues, the film focuses on the actors expressions and feelings that were successfully communicated to its audiences.

I am not going to rave about how much I love the movie and spoil the whole thing for those of you that plans to watch it. All I have to say is that if you love to watch artistic movies.. than this movie is a must watch! The cinematography is excellent.. The actress is brilliant ( and damn pretty too...)... The storyline is a bit tricky because it requires you to think a lil' laa (definitely not a typical A. Razak Mohaideen movie). And the script is very poetic.. I didn't even bother to read the subtitles (yeah, they have the malay subtitles because the Indon words they used are very hard to understand.. very the pekat..) because some of it lose its poetic values once it was translated into B. Melayu.

I spent the entire time during the movie, trying to figure out what does the movie title means in the context of the movie. I seriously thought that it is part of a poem or a song that was written in the movie or even the major color theme for the movie. Instead, I've found out that it actually goes deeper than that. Ungu Violet actually represents the color of love (purple) that entwines red and blue into purple. Symbolic ain't it? That's how great the movie is...

Besides the storyline itself, another thing that had managed to capture my attention was the movie soundtrack. Yeah, Indon movies are known for their great soundtracks like "Ada Apa Dengan Cinta" from the movie of the same title, "Tak Tahan Lagi" from the movie, Eiffel I'm in Love, "Tentang Seseorang" from the movie of the same title and many more. And I fell in love with this movie's song - Menanti Sebuah Jawaban by Padi.. Click here for a preview to the song.

Menanti Sebuah Jawaban

Aku tak bisa luluhkan hatimu
Dan aku tak bisa menyentuh cintamu...
Seiiring jejak kakiku bergetar
Aku telah terpagut oleh cintamu
Menelusup hariku dengan harapan
Namun kau masih) terdiam membisu

Reff.
Sepenuhnya aku ingin memelukmu
Mendekap penuh harapan
Tuk mencintaimu
Setulusnya aku akan terus menunggu
Menanti sebuah jawaban
Tuk memilikimu

Betapa pilunya rindu menusuk jiwaku
Semoga kau tau isi hatiku
Dan seiring waktu yang terus berputar
Aku masih terhanyut dalam mimpiku
Aku tak bisa luluhkan hatimu
Dan aku tak bisa menyentuh cintamu...

These Boots are Made for Walkin'

Carrie Bradshaw once said,
"The fact is, sometimes it's really hard to walk in a single woman's shoes. That's why we need really special ones now and then to make the walk a little more fun."

That Carrie Bradshaw is one smart woman... Isn't she?

What's with woman and shoes?

A woman can never have too many shoes.. rite? There's the sandals, mules, sexy slingbacks, slip-ons, flats, strappy sandals, leather kitten heels boots, loafers, wedges, clogs and many more.. Plus, she needs to have it in various colors to match her outfits too.

I have to admit that I too have my fair share of shoe collection. I can't say that I have lots of shoes, but it is enough to occupy a huge basket that is at the back of the co-pilot's seat in my car. I must say that I just can't survive with just one pair of shoe. I need my black sensible-yet-sexy black working shoe that I can easily match with any outfit. I also can't live without my brown mules and my grey slingbacks too. Those are my favorites.

However, I find it difficult to shop for shoes nowadays. Being a very picky person that I am, it is very hard for me to find the shoes that I like. It is either too gedabak, too bare, too shiny, too stylish, too square, too wide.. well, you get the idea lah kan.. And once I've found the ones that I like, they don't come in size 7!!!!

"I'm sorry there's no size 7"; or
"There's only size 4"; or
"There's no more size 7 in this color"

Argghh... Tension tau...

I have spent 3 hours in KLCC today in search of a new pair of sensible black office shoe. The one that I've bought 3 years back is already begging me to put it out of its misery. As usual, the ones that I like doesn't come in size 7...

Even my shopping partner had that same problem. Imagine finding "the shoe" that matches perfectly with your brand new skirt. The moment you set eyes on it, you can immediately picture yourself wearing it and feel the sudden rush of excitement.. You just HAVE to buy it... But your dream bubbles were suddenly being pricked with a sharp needle and "POP!".. "Sorry, the shoe only come in size 5"...

Nevertheless, we, girls, will persevere. We just have to keep on looking for "the shoe" in "the size" in other shops. Till then, keep on shopping, girls... *winks*

Here is something that I found while surfing for shoe websites tonight...

I Know You Love Me...

I know you love me when...
you look at me with those loving eyes
which vividly reflects how much you adore me..

I know you love me when...
you will wait for me every single day
scrambling to your feet at the slightest sound of the door
and and stood patiently at the front door
waiting to be hugged and kissed

I know you love me when...
you try your mighty best to linger around me
every single second that you get
positioning yourself close enough to feel my warmth
but far enough to give me some space of my own

I know you love me when...
you look deeply into my eyes
and purrs to the point of ecstasy
every time I give you a whole body massage

I know you love me when...
you wake me up every morning
by giving me a big wet kiss and...
goes "meooowww... meowww... meowww..."

Well... I love you too dear...

Oh no.....!!

Have you ever caught yourself singing the tune you last heard in the car on the way to work? And the tune was stuck in your head for one whole day..

Well, I've had tones of those days with various tunes from the great ones to the ones that I actually hate. I will go around for one whole day trying to get it out of my head... "Why must it be this song? Arrgghhh...!"..

Wanna know what tune was stuck in my head today? 1 guess.. (hint: the current hit in Malaysia)..

The Pokok Kelapa' Song
(by Marsha AF3)

Everytime I see X my heart bergoncang,
Everytime I think of you pagi dan petang,
And I forget to eat my makan
Coz there are no other boy but this one...

Underneath pokok kelapa I will wait for you,
Oh X hear me lah don’t tutup pintu,
Cause you hair is like penyapu,
And I know it is full of kutu…

(Note: Have to nyanyi like Marsha's tune)

I am beautiful...

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

I have always thought of myself as an ugly duckling, swimming amongst beautiful swans in the big pond. Lets face it, I am a plain Jane. I have always been a plain girl from small... Eh, correction.. I was rather tomboyish when I was small. With the short bob hair, boyish face, decked in t-shirt and shorts - a Chinese lady actually thought that I was a Leng Chai (a Chinese boy) when I was 7.

Even back in the early years in high school I was never the center of any guy's attention. However, guys were never on my mind pun back then. All I care about was to have fun. And I really did had fun during that time.

As I grow older, I then realised that taking care of one's appearance (a.k.a grooming) comes naturally for a girl. All of a sudden, one morning you wake up and have the sudden urge to comb your hair extra longer than usual, put on a little powder on the face, touch up the lips with some gloss and spray tiny bit of scent here and there before you are ready to face the world (the real one.. not Mawi). Why go through all these routine? Just to make yourself feel good.. It doesn't hurt to give yourself the uplifting spirit, a self-booster in order to tackle the challenging tasks that lies ahead kan?

I slowly begin to enjoy making myself look good. Now I always try to make that extra effort to at least look decent every time I go out. No, I don't do it to impress anyone but myself. Being a typical me, I will never acknowledge any praises that I receive (ahem.. not that I get it everyday pun), because deep down in my heart I still see the young tomboyish girl's reflection starring back at me every time I look into the mirror.

However, for the past few days I've been thrown out of balance by few comments made by people around me.. (get ready to puke... *lol*)

Perasan Moment #1
Scene: Side-walk burger stall -Had a sudden craving for a Ramly burger after class, last Saturday...

Binx: Dik, burger daging special satu...
Boy: Ok Kak...
Binx: Lama tak Dik?
Boy: Tak laa.. kejap je..
Boy: Baru balik tengok wayang ke Kak? (acknowledging my jacket)
Binx: Eh, tak.. baru habis class.
Boy: Eh, study lagi ke?
Binx: Ye laa.. Part time..
Boy: Huh? Akak dah keje ke? Ingat baru umur belas-belas aje
Binx: Belas-belas? Serious?
Boy: Ye laa.. Nampak macam baru habis SPM.. Muda..
Binx: *ahemm*

Perasan Moment #2

Scene: In the lift at 8.30 a.m. this morning

Lady 1: Ni mesti tak breakfast lagi.. (indicating to my tupperware of mee goreng)
Binx: Ha ah.. I'm hungry ni..
Lady 2: Takpe.. She's slim.. she can afford to eat any time she wants
Lady 1: Dah laa slim, tall pulak tuh... Plus pretty lagi..
Lady 1: You should go into modeling laa girl.. Buat part time ke..
Binx: errmm.. errmm.. Nah.. Not pretty..
Lady 2: Modest laa tuh..
Binx: *ahemm*

Perasan Moment #3

Scene: At my cubicle around 9.00 a.m. this morning. An accountant from a Subsidiary came to see the boss...

Ms. A: Is your boss in?
Binx: Ermm, she hasn't come in yet laa Ms. A..
Binx: Would you like to wait for her? B'coz she'll be in soon..
Ms. A: Nah.. It's OK. I just dropped by to say 'Hi'
Binx: Ok.. I'll tell her that you've dropped by yeah?
Ms. A: You're Binx, rite?
Binx: Yeah.. that's me..
Ms. A: My goodness girl.. You are as sweet in person as you sound on the phone..
(I have liased with her a few times through the phone)
Binx: *ahemm*

Perasan Moment #4:

Scene: Boss walks in and I've relayed Ms. A's message. Boss on the phone with Ms. A...

Boss: You came looking for me?
Boss: Yeah.. Binx told me...
Boss: Yeah.. sweet girl eh.. very pretty indeed...
Boss: That's what I've been saying to people..
Boss: She's like sugar attracting ants around here..
Boss: Uncle should have not sent pretty girl to work under me..
Boss: Now all the men likes to linger around here..
Boss: Yeah.. yeah.. (agreeing with Ms. A)
Boss: Yeah.. and she has great fashion sense too..
Boss: I love the way she dresses everyday...
Binx: (eavesdropping? nah.. people can hear her 1km away)
Binx: *ahemm* *blushed*

The last 3 comments had actually brighten my hazy Monday morning and had kept me in good mood for the rest of the day. Nah.. bukan perasan.. but once in a while it sure feels great to hear your own boss praising you as such. She's not the type that is very easy to please.

Those praises were just a show-off (*ahemm* *ahemm*).. Bila lagi Binx nak show-off like this.. Once in a blue moon aje tau.. Those are actually besides the point that I was trying to stress on... Iklan aje *winks*.

Being a few days short before I turn a year older, I realised that beauty is not something objective that you can judge clearly. It is skin deep. A person does not need to look pretty in order to feel pretty. A person's beautiful aura can transform a plain Jane into a stunning Jolie. Hah! Never in a million years laaa kan - not without cosmetic surgery. However, you get what I mean, rite?

So, I'm calling out to all girlfriends out there to stand tall and proud (not the show-off proud) and be confident of yourself. Looks are not important.. It is how you feel inside that counts. If you say that you are beautiful.. indeed you ARE!

Beautiful
by Christina Aguilera

Every day is so wonderful
And suddenly, it's hard to breathe
Now and then, I get insecure
From all the fame, I'm so ashamed

I am beautiful no matter what they say
Words can't bring me down
I am beautiful in every single way
Yes, words can't bring me down
So don't you bring me down today

To all your friends, you're delirious
So consumed in all your doom
Trying hard to fill the emptiness
The piece is gone and the puzzle undone
That's the way it is

You are beautiful no matter what they say
Words won't bring you down
You are beautiful in every single way
Yes, words won't bring you down
Don't you bring me down today...

binx: don't you just love tulips.. beautiful..

Confession of a Shopping-Deprived Workaholic

I've finally had my first dosage of retail therapy today, after constantly planning it since 2 weeks back.

Was suppose to go shopping yesterday, but was instead asked to spend an extra 3 hours in front of the PC after work to do some analysis and investigation (now that sounds like CSI plaks *lol*) by the boss... All that while she went off early for a massage session... Mana tak I muncung 2 inci semalam.. hehe..

Hence, today I've managed to finish up all the analysis and more queries that she gave me before the clock strikes 5 (wuhoo.. incrediBinx at work *winks*). No more pending work... However, I went to see the tax manager shortly after that and offerred a helping hand to assist her with the review of the pending tax computation filing (our company managed to get an extension until the 14th of the month). Why did I do that, when all I have been complaining about was having too much work and no free time? Well, the tax department is currently under-staffed and the manager is due to deliver her baby at the end of next week. Even though I know that I should be keeping quiet and just spend my leisure time surfing the net and blog hopping, I felt that I should at least help her out a little, if not a lot pun kan... Anyway, I told her I'll help her out as of tomorrow because today I'm going on a shopping spree........

A text message I received from e.j.a.n:-
"8 months tak shop?! Seriously girl? Ok.. go and shop til you drop ok.."

It was as if everything was trying to stop me from getting to my destination this evening. First, it the was a car blocking my car at the parking lot. I had to wait for almost 10 minutes for the Kakak that manage the car park to locate the car key and had to remove it out of the way myself ("Dik, tolong laa.. Akak tak gheti bawak kereta.."). Then, it took me 45 minutes to get from the parking lot to the Jln Pudu intersection, near Bukit Bintang area, which normally will take me around 10 minutes on a typical day. Suddenly the big cement truck decided to go back early today and all the busses in KL decided to take Jalan Bukit Bintang to get to their destinations.. Hmmmphh...

After I have finally squeezed my way through the busy street and got myself onto the Federal Highway, heading towards the mall, I thought things will now start to get better. Little did I realised that the road to the mall was under construction. My instinct told me that I was going to miss the turning. Hence, I simply drove on the left lane to ensure that that will not happen. Aha.. Midvalley City, 150m to the left.. Ok, I am NOT going to miss the turning.. I actually went on the correct lane only to miss another sharp and narrow turning to the left.. Demmit! Maybe God doesn't want me to spend all my hard-earned money today kut.. It's OK.. I can always do a Huge U-turn at the Universiti LRT stations junction, which I did. Yipeee..

Luckily I was able to secure a parking easily today (it was exactly next to the entrance - just in case I have to make 2 trips just to get the stuffs I've borong'ed back to the car). And off I went, roaming the floors of Mid Valley.

Things I noticed while shopping during the sale seasons:-

1) all the sizes for the cool pants or shirts you fancy are 10 and above.. ( I wear size 6) *hmmph*
2) the clothes on display are the only stocks available *hmmph*
3) items in (2) are either stained or have some kinda flaw on it *hmmph*
4) items that are discounted by 70% are mostly items in (1) *hmmph*
5) things that you like are mostly marked down by either 10% or 20% or a normal priced item *hmmph*
6) when you require an assistance to find a shoe with your size, the promoter is never around.. but when you just want to window shop, the promoter will actually follow you with a hawk-like stare until you leave the store.. *hmmph*

After spending 3 hours in the shopping mall, I came back bearing 4 bags. 4 bags only, you might ask? Well, ok laa tuh kan...

1) 2 Hush Puppies sandals (I likeeeeee...)
2) 4 Zara tops (1 baby blue boat-neck top, 1 dusty pink vee-neck knitted top, 1 purple baby-t, 1 maroon sleeveless top)
3) a HSBC reward I get for spending over a certain limit at the Mall
4) 1901 New York Chicken Hot Dog (for dinner)

Hmm.. after all that, I still don't feel complete. Hence, next mission: One Utama & The Curve...

What gives...?

How do you feel when someone actually looks down on you?

All my life, I have been taught to be humble to everyone. Always remember that everyone is the same and no one is greater than the other. With that in mind, I've survived my 2 years living in Hulu Terengganu, a very rural small sleepy town. There I have learnt a lot about the concept of humility and kindness. I can strongly say that I will never be the person I am today without having gone through those pleasant 2 years of my life.

Fast forward to the current days, I am surprise to see how some people can be a total b*tch and become such a stuck-up when it comes to ranks and qualifications. Just because someone sits at a small cubicle outside her boss' office does not make her the boss' secretary. Just because someone dresses plainly to the office does not mean that she's just a plain subordinate (if she is pun.. so what?). Just because someone can't speak fluent english does not make you a better person than him. Just because someone stutters does not make him less the person you are. I can go on and on with examples...

As a person who loves to observe people's behaviour, I am very sensitive to detect any peculiar demeanor of the people around me. Hence, when a new group of employees were brought over to my department for their first tour around the Group one fine afternoon, my b*tch detector did not miss the smug look on one of the trainees' face. It was outright obvious that she was actually looking down her nose at me.

Being situated in a cubicle just outside my boss' office does confuse some people. Yeah, some of them actually thought that I was her secretary. However, I've never been infuriated by that before for those people never actually made any rude comments or gestures towards me. Moreover, they even greeted me politely and sometimes tried to engaged me into friendly conversations in which I will try to explain that I was not the secretary.

Nevertheless, when I was being introduced to the new group of trainees, I just can't help but to notice the swaggering aura of the girl, as if conveying a loud and clear "I'm too good for all this" kinda message. She didn't even look at me when we shook hands and instead was eyeing my work area with much disdain... Tau laa my work area not as glamorous at other department's.. so what?

I noticed that she was taken aback when she found out that I was actually an exec under the same program as her. "Oh.. really? What level are you at now?" she said, referring to the CIMA examination module.. "Ermm.. I'm now finishing my final 3 papers".. "Rite...", came her aloof reply.. Hah!

Ok Ok.. I might have misjudged her character laa kan, being very sensitive and all. However, a call from a fellow colleague from another Subsidiary actually confirmed my opinion of the high-nose-queen. Since he got to spend almost half a day with the group, his opinions should be more valid than my 15 minutes encounter. Hmmmm....

Well, I decided to give the girl a benefit of the doubt laa.. Tak baik buruk sangka kat orang kan.. Hence, I just smiled at her whenever we crosses path (The HR department was just next door). Anyhow, a brief brush with the almightly queen in the ladies room had made me change my mind.

Queen: So, dah lama keje sini? (with a kerek look)
Binx: Ermm.. This is my 3rd year with the company (still smiling)
Queen: You grad from which Uni?
Binx: Local aje.. Uniten..
Queen: Oh.. (one eyebrow raised) I see..
Binx: Yourself?
Queen: UUM.. then I did my MASTERS in Accountancy in UiTM.. (with a smug)
Queen: I just finished my MASTERS a few months back.. (take that!)
Binx: Rite..
Queen: I guess if I didn't continue my MASTERS I would have been working for 3 years too by now.. (smug face)
Binx: Ahaaa... (urrghhh)
Queen: So.. how do you find CIMA? Is it tough?
Binx: Well, nothing in life is easy..
Queen: Yeah.. getting my MASTERS was not easy either...
Queen: So I guess CIMA will be a breeze for me..
Binx: Rite... (We just have to wait and see, girl!)

Enough said...

binx: %#^$^!@%@!$#%!#%@%!&
