I have the tendency to notice people's odd behaviour, especially the things that they say. Maybe because I am very observant and love to just watch how people do/say things.
One of my bad habits is to imitate those odd things that I find funny. For example, I have a colleague that can't pronounce "R" correctly. He can't roll his tongue to prefect the "r" sound. He will usually pronounce "organisation" as "oghanisation". And I will always imitate him whenever he pronounced such words in that manner. This is just like the time when I was caught counting how many times my lecturer said the word "so-called".
Another person that I used to love to imitate was my A-levels Economics lecturer. We used to nick her the "French Lady". She, too, can't pronounce her "R" correctly. Her case was even worse because her pronunciation will sound like a foreign word that would always confuse us. Pronouncing words like "sovereignty" and "ceteris paribus" can be a tongue twister for her. However, those were the reasons that had kept me awake throughout the boring lecture.. Just anxiously waiting for her to encounter those twisted words and struggling to pronounce it was the highlight of my day...
I remembered sitting in the Commercial Law class in uni next to Jigga and cracking up every time our Law lecturer said certain words like "thats mean" (suppose to be "that means"). It will be our weekly routine to actually count how many times he actually mentioned the phrase. Sometimes when we are not sitting next to each other, even from across the classroom, Jigga would raise an eyebrow and I would start to crack up just by the mere mention of "thats mean"... Urrgghh.. Nak aje tell the lecturer that it's suppose to be "that means"!
My current target is one of my subordinate in my department. She just cracks me up every time she opens her mouth. She's a chinese educated girl with the typical chinese tongue. Dah laa pelat, cakap laju pulak tuh.. There was this one time when she wanted to inquire on a particular invoice from our legal advisor's firm, "Mssr. Azzat & Izzat" and she hurriedly pronounced it as "Acat & Icchat".. My other colleague had to pause and asked her to repeat it a few times before understanding her question. Memang gelak rolling-rolling laa that time...
And today, a blunder on the speaker of the seminar that I have attended part had kept me awake through a very boring and dry seminar. The speaker was actually a director of the group financial services department of a very reknowned big 4 audit firm. However, her english was very bad that it had caught my attention the minute she opened her mouth. There was this one time when Izzy looked puzzled when the speaker mentioned the word "borne".. He thought she said "porn"! Hahaha... "Porn" in an accounting standard? I don't think so! I laughed so hard that he had to asked whether I had consumed any alcohol beverages or drugs... hahahaha. Thanks to the speaker, I had survived a day cooped in a conference room of 50 accountants from the entire group. With her bloken enggeris and "whats not" (suppose to be "what nots"), I now understand why I had to correct last year's draft audited account many many times due to lots and lots of silly grammatical errors. And I thought the junior staff was incompetent!
Remember this song?
Why you so like dat ah?
Why you so like dat?
I give you my tic tac
but you never give me your kit kat
Why you so like dat ah?
Why you so like dat?
binx: 12 hours of accounting standard seminar can drive u insane..!
