Arrived home today earlier than usual and found Mom at her normal place at the dining table, with her laptop and open files.
Binx: Ma... what happened to our garden chairs kat depan tuh? Takde pun.. mana pegi?
Mama: Loh.. dah kena curik yesterday morning..
Binx: Huh? Really? Isk...
Mama: Must be the same people that took the garden table dulu kut..
Binx: When did you realised it?
Mama: Emma (the maid) said that it was gone since early morning..
Binx: Meaning the person came in during the night? Scary nya..
Mama: Yeah... Isk.. sakit kepala Mama.. (que: massaged her head)
Then I saw the blinking, shining bracelet...
Binx: Wah.. a new bracelet laaa tuh..
Mama: Of course..
Binx: Yang hari tuh punya mana?
Mama: Lil' Sis nak.. so I gave it to her..
Binx: Hmmm.. ok
Mama: But I have 2 more stones that they've cut out from the bracelet nieh..
Mama: Nak buat apa ek?
Binx: I dunno laa ma..
Mama: Kalau buat rings.. I have 3 daughters.. so tak cukup
Binx: No thanks ma.. I don't like rings..
Mama: Macam mana nak kawin nieh?
Binx: Well, I don't need to wear a wedding ring...
Binx: I can ask for a bracelet or even a necklace..
Binx: Boleh kan?

Well.. that's the fact.. I don't like to wear rings. Why? Because I don't think it looks nice against my ranting-like fingers. So buruk... While most girls are conscious about their body parts, e.g. thighs, tummy, cheek, nose and etc., I am conscious about my fingers. This is because many people said that my fingers are funny. One friend associated it with ranting kayu, while another disagreed and said that it resembles the long beans (kacang panjang). Another darling friend actually said that my fingers looks like Gollum's in LOTR.
Hence, since I can't endure all the jokes cracked about my fingers, I've tried my best not to do anything with it to attract attention to it. That was how I discovered that by wearing a bracelet, it will shift the focus away from my ranting-like fingers to my wrist. And it worked!
I have been wearing a white gold bracelet for the past 2 years and I love it dearly. I've bought the bracelet after I sat for my CIMA exam for the first time. The paper was tough and I was so sure that I've flunked it. Hence, when Lil' Sis came to pick me up at the exam hall, I've asked her to drive straight to MidValley for some retail therapy. I ended up treating myself to a white gold bracelet and a necklace that day. It was indeed a therapy for I've forgotten about the exam soon after the salesgirl slipped the bracelet on my wrist.
Ok back to the question about giving bracelet or necklace to replace wedding rings.. it can be done kan? I've seen a few people doing it now. However, they would still have a ring either for the engagement or for the wedding. Can I not have any rings at all..? Would it be ok? I mean, people would usually identify a married men and women by the ring that they wear on their fingers. Hence, if I were married and not have a ring on my ranting-like fingers, would it confuse people?
Apa laa Binx merepek tengah2 malam nieh kan.. However, it is just some points to ponder...
