The Girl Who Handles The Slides

It has been a very hectic and stressful week. Despite the fact that I only have less than 3 weeks to go before I leave the company, I still have lots to finish up.

Handover? What handover? So far, I have only managed to handover one part of my current portfolio to 1 out of 2 person that will take over my job. Tuh pun 3 weeks after Uncle Dan had asked me to proceed with the handover process.. Terrible kan? The other person tuh lagi teruk. The day that he found out that he was 'the chosen one' that will be sitting in the hot seat, terus dapat chicken pox!!! Imagine that.. A 30 something year old guy baru nak kena chicken pox. Until today, 3 weeks later, pun tak baik-baik lagi.. *sigh*

In the end, I still have to do the cashflow report for the month, which until now is still pending information from an idiotic accountant.. *sigh*

Tomorrow (Thursday) is the Company's AGM, and guess who is one of the usherer... Who else laa kan.. Once you are marked as one, your name will always pop-up for every event. Even dah nak berenti nieh pun still kena jadi usherer.. Not only that, at the very last minute today (4.45 pm), our GMD had requested for powerpoint presentation slides to accompany his speech during the AGM.. And guessed who had to prepare it? ME!

*arrgghhh*

Usherer and 'the person who handles the slides'... Two different roles to play...

Which leads me to my next conflict.. What should I wear?

They make it compulsory for the usherers to wear baju kurung. According to them it is more presentable that way. However, I can't imagine myself in a baju kurung while mending the power point slides for the GMD. It is so not the corporate laa.. Plus, the place where they have set-up the projector and the laptop is freaking cold, strategically situated under a huge air-cond vent. If pakai the thin baju kurung, by the end of the one hour session I will be frozen to death.

If I were to opt for a pants suit, I will be the only one out during the ushering process.. I am now very very confuse...

I scream for ice cream!

My appetite had gone wild for the past week.. I was practically hungry all around the clock..

I knew that it was not normal when I actually finished half of a large pizza after telling Zorro that the maximum slices that I can eat in one go was just 2! And that night I had 4 huge slices! You would think that after having that 4 slices I would be full... However, my tummy started to grumble again by 12 a.m. Hence, at 2 a.m. I just had to go and have a roti canai with hot delicious dhal... Heaven...

Yesterday (Saturday), I woke up with a craving for nasi lemak.. I was already picturing the Village Park's hot nasi lemak. However, as I was about to go out, Mom asked me to teman her for breakfast at restaurant near by.. Hampa laa kejap.. So, I didn't get to eat the nasi lemak. Instead I got myself a Johor style lontong that was equally delicious.

Not satisfied with how things had turned, I told mom that I was gonna prepare lunch for the day. Since mom's friend and her 2 nieces came over, I decided to cook something nice, plus I was craving for Chicken Rice since last week. A quick dash to the market to get the supplies, I was ready to get busy by 12 p.m.

It was actually my second time preparing the chicken rice dish, the first being 8 or was it 9 years ago.. Hence, I was gambling my luck, cooking for 2 chefs that came to visit. Imagine my nervousness while boiling the chicken broth, frying the chickens and preparing the hot chili sauce...

My mom always said that when you cook with a sincere intention, the end result will turn out well... And Alhamdulillah the dishes turned out great... And to my surprise, both chefs were enjoying the meal. One of the 2 chefs, who is the most critical person that I have ever met, kept complimenting on my cooking! Wuhoo.. dapat approval chef tuh.. (Perasan mode: ON).. Tak percaya? Check out the photos below...

Right after lunch, I suddenly had a craving for pancakes. I told you my appetite had gone wild. However, after such heavy lunch, I just can't imagine myself pigging into a plate of pancakes. Hence, I woke up early this morning (Sunday) and prepared a batch of pancakes for everyone. Naaah.. I didn't make it from scratch. I remembered that my sister bought the ready-made pancake bater from Tesco few weeks before, so it was just a matter of mixing the pre-mixed four with water and milk. As easy as ABC! hehehe... The hot pancakes with syrup and butter really hits the spot...!

By dinner time, my tummy suddenly said that it wants to eat another set of home cooked meal. I guess it was tired of all the take-out food that we usually order every day (no maids.. so a wee bit lazy to cook everyday). Hence, I set out to the kitchen to prepare dinner. After half and hour in the kitchen, I managed to dish up some ayam masak kicap 'ala Binx, with lots of potatos and onions and cut chilies, a burnt ikan masin, sambal belacan and leftover salad from the chicken rice dish. OK laa kan? Yumm-my.. :)

It has been an hour since dinner and my tummy tells me that it wants some ice cream..! I am already drained out from all the cooking and washing.. Can someone get me some ice cream please.. I'll be eternally grateful...

*drools*

My Life as a Walking Dictionary (Part II)

I never advertised myself in the Yellow Page, or even sent out flyers that says "Binx - the one-stop Walking Dictionary".

However, I keep getting calls, smses and even emails asking me about everything...

So far, in the past few weeks/months, my friends, colleagues and even family members had asked me these questions...

... "Binx, do you know of any travel agents that have Indonesian tour packages?"

... "Binx, do you know if there's a Maxis shop near the Curve?"

... "Girl, do you know where I can get nice baju kurung/kebaya around KL?"

... "Binx, do you know of any place that sells good laksa?"

... "Binx, do you know when is the bonus coming out?"

... "Binx, how do I get to the Rumah Anak Yatim in TTDI?"

... "Binx, do you have the number of our optician friend?"

... "Binx, how do you order the printer cartridges?"

... "Girl, how to print pictures on the glossy paper?"

... "Girl, can I get the number of our fav. restaurant?"

... "Dear, what's the address of the Village Park?"

... "What car do you think suits me best?"

... "So... who won the F1 Malaysian GP?"

... "Binx, is the CIMA revision class that you went last year any good?"

... "Binx, how do I print this doc? The printer's not working!"

... "Binx, how did you organise the last Corporate Briefing? Help!"

Seriously, I can't answer all of those questions because I don't know EVERYTHING!

Oh well, maybe I'll try to supply them with stupid answers.. then they'll stop asking kan? Or maybe make them treat me to one Rhumba frap per question asked... *lol*

Confession of the Forgetful Binx (Part II)

I thought that after the hectic activities had died down, I won't have to experience any of these events anymore.

However...

Forgetful scene #6

Monday

Went down to the laundry room to get my work shirt. Since I was already running late, I just decided put it on there and then and just rushed out of the door. I remembered putting on my glasses on my way down the stairs. However, it was not sitting on my nose when I reached my car!

Hence, I retrieved my steps, back into the house, looked at the huge mirror by the door where I had stopped by to wear my tudung - nope not there.. Went up the stairs to my room, next to my pillow where I always put it before I go to sleep - nope.. not there either..

Where is it?

Ooopss.. no time to look now.. I was running late!

*squint* *squint*

Came back from work and Lil' Sis told me that she found my glasses on the ironing table in the laundry room..

D'oh Binx!

Forgetful scene #7

Wednesday

During the usual morning rush, I ran down the stairs and looked for my glasses. I remembered putting it on the table next to the mirror the night before. However, it was not there!

Arrgghh.. not again!

Retrieved my steps around the house..

Next to the TV - nope...
On the coffee table - nope...
Next to the pillow - nope...
On my study table - nope...

Where is it?!

Hence, had to endure another day squinting away in front of the PC in the office.. My ever-so-sepet eyes became smaller as I squint.. *sigh*

*squint* *squint*

Thursday

Still no sign of my glasses...
*squint* *squint*

Friday

Nopes...
*squint* *squint*

Saturday

Nopes...
*squint* *squint*

Sunday

Nopes... Had to missed out Sepang due to my absentmindedness...
Takkan nak squint throughout the race kut..
Ended up watching the race few inches away from TV set..
*squint* *squint*

Terrible I tell you..... I am so absentminded.

After the 3rd day, I admitted defeat, stopped looking and ordered a new pair of glasses.. and now I am squint-free!! Yipeee..!

Anyone out there know how to fix an alarm device into a pair of glasses?

How does it feel...?

How does it feel like to have your closest friends boycotting your very own wedding due to your well-known bitchy demeanor? It sure hurts, that is if you really care. A simple gesture would have gone a long way in ensuring their willingness in attending the ceremony. However, you being the high-and-mighty you just refuse to go the extra mile to win their hearts and friendship back.

How does it feel like to go behind someone's back and do something as unthinkable as to hurt that someone's feeling? It sure leaves you feeling guilty for not being able to tell that someone. And the agony eats you up inside until the point where you just want to come clean. However, will that someone understand the reason behind your act?

How does it feel like to plan something for so long only to not being able to execute it at the last minute? To top it up, invitation to the event that you have planned for kept coming rite to the very last minute. The lure and attraction are just irresistible. However, due to your own careless mistake, you ended up witnessing the event in your very own living room, slouching on the comfortable sofa, wishing that you were there...

*sigh*

Fool's Garden - Lemon Tree

I'm sitting here in the boring room
It's just another rainy sunday afternoon
I'm wasting my time
I got nothing to do
I'm hanging around
I'm waiting for you
But nothing ever happens and i wonder

I'm driving around in my car
I'm driving too fast
I'm driving too far
I'd like to change my point of view
I feel so lonely
I'm waiting for you
But nothing ever happens and i wonder

I wonder how
I wonder why
Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
And all that i can see is just a yellow lemon-tree
I'm turning my head up and down
I'm turning turning turning turning turning around
And all that i can see is just another lemon-tree

I'm sitting here
I miss the power
I'd like to go out taking a shower
But there's a heavy cloud inside my head
I feel so tired
Put myself into bed
While nothing ever happens and i wonder

Isolation is not good for me
Isolation i don't want to sit on the lemon-tree

I'm steppin' around in the desert of joy
Baby anyhow i'll get another toy
And everything will happen and you wonder

I wonder how
I wonder why
Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
And all that i can see is just another lemon-tree
I'm turning my head up and down
I'm turning turning turning turning turning around
And all that i can see is just a yellow lemon-tree
And i wonder, wonder

I wonder how
I wonder why
Yesterday you told me 'bout the blue blue sky
And all that i can see, and all that i can see, and all that i can see
Is just a yellow lemon-tree

Weaving through the grapevine

psssttt.... psssttt...

Let me post you a question...

If you were to find out about the latest update on the people you work with, who would you ask?

Answers please....

The guard? No...

The cleaners? No...

Your boss' secretary!!!

Iye.. Cik Joyah...

It is a well known fact that secretaries are the source of the office gossips. They are the first person to receive any news and would be the CNN newscaster that will efficiently broadcast it to the whole world.

Uncle Dan's secretary is the most efficient CNN newscaster that I have ever met. She is so great that almost half of the department knew that I was resigning even before I went in to see Uncle to pass him 'the letter'. I was just sitting in front of her, holding the white envelope, when she told everyone that passes by that I was about the resign. By the time I walked out of Uncle's room, the news had traveled throughout the 28-storey building.

Betul Cik Kiyah oi....

Sometimes she would just slip out confidential information to us. Things that we (the staff) are not suppose to know...

Kak S: Binx, that new girl that just came in tuh bagus sangat ke?
Me: Huh? How would I know.. Why did you asked?
Kak S: Takde laa.. She came in and got herself a new room...
Kak S: Plus her starting salary is even higher than all the normal execs..
Me: Really? (ears perked up)
Kak S: Yeah.. double your current pay
(It doesn't help that she handles the payroll too la kan...)
Me: Wow!!!

Kak S: Do you know that NFK is going to be transferred to the new subsidiary?
Me: Really? Who is going to take her place then?
Kak S: Tilam
Me: Huh? Really?
Kak S: He went for the interview yesterday.. and apparently he got the FC post
Me: FC? Wow!!!

These are just the minor stuff... At times, she will start telling me stories about other people's personal life. How X's husband plays around with other women, that Y is from a very rich background, that Z actually is a playboy and many more.

Percaya laa Cik Jenab oi...

Just listening to her telling me all those stuff makes me feel uncomfortable. I don't want to know any of those stuff. I know how it feels like to have people talking or gossiping behind your back. Hence, I don't really like to make it a habit to spread stories about people around. Unless I am just gossiping with my girlfriends lah.. hehehe (the stories will just remain in our close circle).

Once the CNN has broadcasted the latest news, people would start to flock around and become engrossed in discussing the current issue. It looks like those discussion groups that were discussing about the recent oil price hike and what not. If only their concentration power can be put into good use, I bet there will be less slacking time and the management account can be finished on time.

As for now, the department is buzzing with all sorts of 'news'. Ever since I have tendered my resignation, everyone has been wondering who will be the unlucky person to replace me. Hence, 'news' starts to form. Apart from that, it is a common practice for Uncle to start re-shuffling the staffs around this time of the year. Thus, more theories and stories starts to circulate.

Well, what ever changes that will take place in the next few weeks, I am confident enough that I will get a first hand information because now the CNN has a new broadcasting mode: via SMS!!!

What are the CNNs' like in your office?

binx: mind your own business please...
