Laksam & Nasi Kerabu Iftar

What a fun day it was....

It began with a cold, rainy morning when I actually forgo studying due to the demanding tired body. However, I received a call from Abg Zorro at about 9 am asking me to come in to the office in order to finish up the consol accounts. There goes my Saturday!

Before I went to the office, had to run some errands in order to prepare for the big iftar tonight. Hence, went to the Pasar Besar to get some fish and ulam-ulam for the laksam and nasi kerabu.

Rushed to the office after dropping off the groceries at home. Was already at my cubicle, crunching numbers, by 11 am. Unfortunately, Mr. Tilam was in too.. Urrggghh... Ran through the accounts with Abg Zorro and got everything done by 1 pm. Since it was still early, I decided to update on my filings and managed to cleared out most of my in-tray stuffs. Hah... that's what we call efficient! *winks*

Got back at around 3 pm and helped out Ema (maid) in the kitchen, preparing the laksam for the laksa kelantan. It was actually fun to actually take time off from all the studying that I've been doing and do some cooking instead.

Laksam & ulam

The troop (Aunt & family and Cousin & family) came at around 6.30 pm. Aunt had prepared the rice and all the lauk for Nasi Kerabu. It looked oh so delicious that I was constantly looking at my watch to check the time for berbuka. On top of that, she had also prepared karipap and some puddings too! It seems that the cravings for karipap actually runs in the family. My lil' cousin actually asked his mom to prepare it almost every single day! Cool!

It has been a long time since we had a dinner gathering like tonight. And it was a fun occasion indeed. However, it would have been two times merrier if Lil Sis & Ducky Cousin were at home instead of in Perth & Japan. Well girls, just click here to see what you guys have missed tonight (warning: jangan emo ok).

Hope everyone had a great iftar too...!

Confession of the Forgetful Binx...

Forgetful scene #1

Went for my normal weekend class (Saturday). Entered class in a very relax mode. Took my favorite seat (at the end of the classroom), and started to prepare myself for class. Took out my pencil case and noticed that I forgot to bring my calculator! My calculator should be in my pencil case at all time. However, of all the days, I chose that day to leave it at home, when the only calculation chapter in the syllabus will be taught. Smart, Binx... Very smart...

Forgetful scene #2

As the lecturer started to switch on the projector, I reached for my glasses in my bag. Got the case - opened it - EMPTY! First the calculator, then the glasses. Luckily she distributed the slides handouts for the lecture.

Forgetful scene #3

Before class the next day (Sunday), I made sure that I have my glasses neatly tucked in its case. Hence, I confidently walked into class and took my normal seat. The girl next to me noticed that I brought my glasses that day and applauded me.. hahaha.. However, after 10 minutes seating in the freaking cold classroom, everyone started to pull their warm clothing out of their bag. That was when I realised that I left my jacket in the car! To make it worse, it was a 4-hour lecture... Brrrr......

Forgetful scene #4

Was early getting ready for work earlier this week. I actually pushed off from home 15 minutes earlier than my usual time. Hence, I was actually thinking of it to be a start of a pleasant day. 10 minutes into the journey and the rain started pouring... Reached for my bag to retrieve my glasses.. and it was not there!!! Arrggghhh...... Spent the entire journey driving under 60 kmph, with the body leaning near the windscreen - squinting.

Forgetful scene #5

Made sure I had my glasses sitting on top of my nose this morning, before I left the house. Hence, I was sure that I will not have any more forgetful blunders. Arrived at the office, went up to my floor, switched on my PC and suddenly remembered that I needed to SMS a friend. Reached for my bag and it was not there. I've forgotten my handphone!!!

I read somewhere that forgetfulness may be triggered by stress. Yes, I have been under a lot of stress lately. However, I could not grasp the fact that I can be that forgetful for the past couple of weeks!

Hope it would not continue to be this way up until my exam date. I pray to God that I will not face such incidents during my exam week. Imagine turning up for a Financial Strategy paper without bring a calculator along... That will be a total disaster! (touchwood!)...

How I wish.....

How I wish life is much simpler than it is rite now. Life.. with no studying to do, no work obligations, no work related pressure, no exam related stress, would be the one I am in need for rite about now.

Wish I could just drop everything that I am currently shouldering and just disappear... An escape to the beach would be nice.. However, it's not the season to be lazing around by the beach, with the rain and all. At the rate that I am going rite now, a week stay in a hotel room, with spa facilities, would be good enough. Daily massage would be heavenly... Aaaahhh...... *dreaming away*

If you could just go away for awhile, where would you go? Maybe your input could be of help to me...

Of Mattresses and Holes

Have you ever noticed the lorry that goes around the neighborhood selling mattresses?

"Tilam.. Tilam..."

I once bought a mattress from an uncle Tilam before, back in the uni days. The tilam was errmm.. how shall I say it.. lembik.. Once you seat on it, it just sinks right in. So tak sedap...

Why am I talking about mattresses? Well, I am very much infuriated by a Mr. Tilam (bukan nama sebenar) this morning. Why we call him tilam, I shall not say. However, the thing that Mr. Tilam did was very unforgiving...

1st: He promises to submit something to me earliest by Wednesday last week. And guessed when I received that something... Yesterday!, after the official working time for us, Muslims, at 4.45 pm.

2nd: After checking his something, I detected some major errors in it and went in search for him to rectify it this morning. I told him gently about it, guessed what he did.. He snapped at me! The mistake was his, and not mine...

3rd: At around 11 am just now, he had the cheek to come to my place, all smiling (smug is more like it) telling me that the error had been rectified and he was sorry for snapping at me. After spoiling my good mood, you can just smile and say sorry? Sorry mister! Go sell your tilam some place else... Sini tak laku...

Ok dah lepas geram.. :D

Back to the subject of mattresses.. tilam.. or lembek (Kelantan-speak)

I wonder if the uncle Tilam would buy back all the tilam in the guys dorm back in my high school. My goodness, I tell youuuu... those tilam's conditions were terrible.. full of holes! One look at those tilams and you'll lose your appetite for a week!

What's with guy's mattresses and holes, I wonder... I know of one tilam that is full of holes, and it's not a real mattress (the Mr. Tilam laa kan, who else).

So anyone care to explain about the holes?

Oh sleepy... sleepy day!

It is only 12 pm and I've already yawned for the 1000th time. Kenapa today mengantuk sangat nieh? Yesterday (1st day of puasa) ok aje.. wide-eyed, energetic and cheerful aje. Maybe the fasting syndrome has just started to kick-in kut kan... Ntah laa..

Am blogging from the office, again! The Streamyx at home has yet to be activated by those morons at Streamyx. They have promised a 3 days minimum activation period, and it has been a week now. When Sis called Streamyx yesterday, they said that according to their database the connecting address was still our old address, so we need to check with TM and ask them to update the database. WE need to check with TM, not them...! What type of customer service is that? A call to TM only irritate her more when they told her that the address has been changed since last week. Orang nieh cakap lain, orang tuh cakap lain... Siapa yang susah? We all jugak... :(

On another subject, I no longer have to share a room with my sister! Wuhoooo... gila happy! We finally sorted out all the junks we called treasure and threw away most of it to make space in the other room. After re-arranging the position of the furniture, we managed to turn it into one more comfy room. Hooray!

I have loads to ramble on actually. However, I have been coughing and sneezing non-stop since this morning that causes my brain to be a wee bit disarrayed. Hence, will have to wait till the connection at home is activated and I will be rambling away from the comfort of my very own room.. *winks*

Of Popiah and Karipap

It is the fasting month again, Ramadhan Al-Mubarak. Starting from tomorrow, there will be no more morning coffee at 8.30 am, no more lunch break, and no more afternoon tea-break at 5.00 pm.

However, for most Malaysians, this is the month where there will be endless choices of food. You can find a 'Pasar Ramadhan' in almost every district in the country, offering various local delicacies such as Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Dagang, Ayam Percik, Ayam Golek, Otak-otak, Murtabak and many more. You can also find various local kuih such as kuih talam, buah melaka, kuih cara berlauk, tepung pelita, bubur pulut hitam and many more at the said market. Hence, you can guarantee that people from all walks of life, from different races (not reserved for Malays/Muslims only) will flock these stalls as soon as it opens at around 4pm starting from tomorrow.

As for me, I have stopped going to the Pasar Ramadhan since 2 years ago. I find it to be too crowded for comfort. Furthermore, the food sold just doesn't appeal to my taste bud anymore. I would prefer to have a home-cooked meal as compared to most of the dishes sold at the Pasar.

Maybe I can rule out that hygiene is one of that push-factor in this case. I just hate the fact that you have to pay so much just to eat something that will cause stomach discomfort later on. In the end you ibadah will also be ruin because you will be spending most of the time in the toilet instead of at the mosque performing the terawikh.

Nevertheless, one thing for sure, my buka puasa ritual will not be complete without either popiah or karipap. These are my two all-time favorite kuih. Hence, I would usually do a quick dash to the Pasar to buy either kuih almost everyday, with out fail. Last two years, I actually made the popiahs myself and stored it in the freezer to be fried every evening - lagi sedap - juicy: filled with lots of minced chicken meat, taugeh and etc. *drool*. I don't think I'll do that this year, due to the time factor (plus a wee bit malas).

So, here is a wish to everyone out there, Selamat Berpuasa! May all our ibadah will be accepted by Him. During you trips to the Pasar Ramadhan - Beli jangan ikut nafsu, ok *winks*...

p/s: Lil Sis.. hope you'll survive your 1st Ramadhan away from home. *hugs*
